Friends, family of ‘anarchist’ Oakland baker killed in robbery gone wrong don’t want jail time for thieves
A woke California baker was savagely killed during a robbery this week — and her family and friends are urging authorities not to jail her assailants to align with her social justice beliefs.
The startling plea came after Angel Cakes owner Jen Angel was robbed by two thieves who smashed her car window and ran off with her purse near a Wells Fargo in Uptown Oakland Monday afternoon, the San Franciso Chronicle reported.
Angel, 48, chased after the duo’s getaway car, but got caught in the vehicle’s door and was dragged more the 50 feet, smashing her head on the sidewalk. She was put in a medically induced coma and declared dead Thursday.
“As a long-time social movement activist and anarchist, Jen did not believe in state violence, carceral punishment or incarceration as an effective or just solution to social violence and inequity,” her loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe page set up in the wake of the attack.

SORRY! She forfeit any right to “her social justice beliefs” the moment she chased after them and tried to stop them getting herself caught in the car door. She obviously felt they should be caught and pay for their crimes. To that I AGREE whole heartedly. Let the system do it’s work.

That's a perfectly good explanation. Or maybe she was just extremely angry. She's no longer around to clarify her motive, but she could have let her assailants get away free, and she CHOSE not to do that. Her so-called "friends" should remember that.
They should also remember that she was a successful capitalist entrepreneur, however offensive those "friends" may find that.
It’s not up to the victims in crimes like this to press charges.

In some cases, the perps will dump the purse somewhere, intact, sans the money and credit cards (and any other valuables they might find therein). Local anonymous tip-off to the police tells them where they can recover the cleaned-out purse and wallet.
In other cases, the whole purse gets dumped in the garbage or some bushes alongside the freeway, forever lost and forgotten.
They could sell her ID.
