Once, I did not want lot of change, so I gave the cashier like $10.27 for $6.27 bill.
She got totally confused, and eventually, the manager was needed to solve this conundrum!

My son was in the 4th grade.
He came home with a homework question.
It went something like this:
1149 x 268, estimate the answer.....
Well, my son asked me how to do this.
I told him the answer is one.
He told me that was not correct, and I said to him, “ It’s an estimate. Not a very good one, but an estimate nontheless”.
That is the answer he put down, and of course, I got called in to talk to the teacher.
We went round and round and back and forth, until she was exasperated. Finally, in desperation, she yelled out, “ What do you know about estimating!!??”.
And this was the moment I was waiting for.
I took out my wallet, grabbed my business card, and flipped it over to her. On it it had my name and my title....
Estimator.
I do beleive they stopped trying to teach that form of “math”.
Schools today spend so much time teaching CRT and gender bending that there is little or no instruction in math, reading or other essentials.
However, as a contractor, I need to know if my homes I'm building is safe, you can't make up numbers on building things, especially bridges...
This is true in my all white area with “good schools”. Cashiers can’t make change or do simple arithmatic. We had a couple teenagers helping with an event. The needed to know how many 8 inch boards made up 24 inches. They had trouble without a calculator.
Anyone who cares about their children will get them out of the public schools even in areas with “good schools”.

I think many are simple minded, delusional “Christians” who truly believe the lie that God created us all equal and refuse to accept what their lying eyes are telling them and come up with any rationalization to avoid accepting that reality.

As my children grew up in the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, I saw a progressive change. In the Seventies students who had learning difficulties went to special remedial classes. I went to summer school for math in six grade and again in seventh grades. In High School even some of the “popular” kids went to remedial classes. It did not matter because a minority of students went to college the rest of us chose military, trades or manufacturing.
In the Eighties, there was a change. My youngest son had a problem eventually corrected by surgery. But it left him behind in reading and English. The school district had no remedial classes. He stayed with his class but studied out of a different book. Since teachers still taught back then, they had the classes structured in such a way the they were able to teach from both books during the same class. It was done this way to not embarrass kids with learning issues. It worked for my son, he caught up with everyone by Fifth grade.
In the Nineties the shift was to drugs and separate schools. I had to fight to keep one son out of the special school even for a single class. My other had been assigned to the separate High School it was a breeding ground for gangs and drugs. They even kept them in a building a mile from the actual high schools. Teachers did not even attempt teach this was a reform school where the prisoners went home at night. It fulfilled the State mandate that all kids had to attend school until 17 years of age. When my daughter went to school it was routine all kids were evaluated for zombie drugs. I lost it on a teacher for having my daughter medically evaluated without my permission. That was still required back then. She never was put on drugs and she is completing her Masters while a manager at a very large international firm.
Long winded but my point is we gradually moved away from educated or kids over thirty years.
They gots fingers and machines to count the cash. They are very good at finding them thats rip thems off. No math needed. Just a pistol or an AK.
