Yo-Yo: I know you'd prefer for her not to have gotten pregnant in the first place, but she did. So what would you have her do next? Have an abortion?

Varda: The correct answer is private adoption so the baby has a mother and father.

I agree with the adoption approach, but with it I want both biological parents to pay child support to the foster parents. We need to quit removing the natural consequences from the people making bad decisions. Both adoption and abortion encourage making babies out of wedlock because both "solutions" remove the burden of raising kids from the people choosing to make the kids.

The goal should be to reduce the rate of pregnancies out of wedlock. That can be done but only by changing the habits of the people creating the pregnancies. The Great Depression is an example of people figuring out how to reduce their birth rates when raising kids was too large of a burden (at least in the cities and suburbs -- families on self-sustaining farms didn't reduce their birth rates). Abortion combined with the welfare state has put up an educational barrier preventing people from learning life lessons.

I would think a new born would find a home. Older children from foster care certainly have trouble.

We could also list the other things that keep the Amish together as a family:

No Internet
No Social Media
No TV
No Drugs
No Alcohol
No office jobs sitting around getting fat all day
No automobile accidents

All of the above can add STRESS to your environment. The worst one IMHO is anonymity SOCIAL MEDIA.

If she lives on the public dole she should now be sterilized.

I know a woman raised that way. She is a productive member of society. Her “real” mom is the lady who raised her but she’s glad to have known her birth mom who has since passed away.

Unwed parenthood is at the root of our decline.
Stems from the 1960s when no fault divorce was legalized. America will never be great again.

If the birth mother does the right thing by placing the baby for adoption why punish her? I’m not seeing any upside.

I know you'd prefer for her not to have gotten pregnant in the first place, but she did. So what would you have her do next? Have an abortion?

She chose to get pregnant (yes, chose. Birth control has been available for decades, and Medicaid covers it) because she knew that there would be a welfare safety net.

If there was no safety net, she would likely have made a different decision.

Women were made to make babies but men were made to take care of their women so that they can focus on taking care of the babies. Men need to step up and take care of their women.

Problem: the woman has to CHOOSE to be "your woman". Many choose NOT TO be any man's woman, because they have options.

In the past, a woman became the wife of an average guy because staying single was not an option, and her parents let her know that Prince Charming had better options than settling for her, so she better pick a guy who WAS willing to marry her.

For a successful marriage to occur, each spouse has to have an incentive to WORK AT keeping the other spouse happy.

I don't know about the rates of repeat "accidental" pregnancies leading to adoption. But in abortion there's the alarming fact that over half (I think it's 56%) of all abortions in the U.S. are done in mothers who had a prior abortion. Evidently the biological mother didn't learn the lesson the first time -- because the hardship of the decision to make the baby was put onto the baby (the one aborted) not on the two who made the baby.

I'm not proposing "punishing" anybody. The natural law of consequences for making babies is the burden of raising them. The past half a century of the welfare state and abortion has created a false experience of no consequences for bad decisions. Sometimes the word for this is "enabling". This has led to an increase in "accidental" pregnancies. I don't want a massive program of adoption to result in the same problem of enabling many future "accidental" pregnancies that the massive abortion system has done.

I'm saying whatever the solution for the immediate problem is (I'm with you on adoption solving the immediate problem of who's gonna raise the baby) needs to be a solution that doesn't encourage the biological parents and others like them to make future babies willy nilly. All that will do is create more babies for us sensible people to have to figure out what to do with. But if the burden of raising babies is put back onto the people making the babies (like it was in all of history until the relatively new welfare state and abortion epidemic), the rate of "accidental" pregnancies will go back down to what it used to be and there will be less future babies for us sensible people to have to figure out what to do with.

The Amish enjoy a huge reproductive advantage: they are exempt from the Socialist Security Ponzi scheme. The average Amish couple raise 6 happy, God-fearing, hard-working children, because they have to.

The traditional arrangement was a kid would take care of his parents in exchange for inheriting the farm when they passed. Don't take care of parents? Disinherited.

“Marriage is a ball and chain on most women.”

So are children depending on a person’s perspective. Except for rape, when it comes to marriage and/or children, women have the free will to choose both, neither, or one of them. So many choose poorly.

The world’s a crazy place.

The problem is people think that if a person doesn’t check off all the boxes, they can simply find someone that does.

Then they reach their 30s and realize by then, the pickings are very slim.
