I think his first movie foray was the title song to Steve McQueen's debut movie, The Blob. Not his finest work, but livelier than most of what passed for movie music in the 50s.

You gotta start somewhere.

I remember the late 1960s,my old man had a radio in the kitchen

I think most of the country had that going on, usually pop songs, some talk and the weather and school snow closings in the Northeast. Used to sit as a family and have breakfast before the school bus arrived. Different times, used to have dinner together every night at 6pm as well.

Well, that got me blubbering. The only comic relief was his girl’s eyelashes! And yes, he wasn’t much of a singer, but he was so sweet in this video.

I remember the late 1960s,my old man had a radio in the kitchen tuned to WIP 610 Philadelphia......lots of his songs playing back then.

Mom had a three-tube AM radio in the kitchen, stuck on WIP, until we moved to Japan in '67. I remember listening to Bacharach on FEN Tokyo 810.

I think that was his wife, Lani Hall, who was the singer with Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, they are still married and performing together.

RIP...thanks for the melodies. I suppose it would be gauche to mention he was a leftist. :)

A 60s leftist would be a conservative by today’s standards.

True but I got the idea he was a leftist when he showed up alongside Barbra S. with her more recent wacky leftist ideas at some political dos.

Yeah, I never figured he was a conservative by any stretch. Doesn’t bother, “artists” will always trend liberal, it comes with the territory.

They will be making beautiful music in Heaven.
I loved playing his music. The musical “Promises Promises” had great music.
He made great use of the flugelhorn in a lot of his music.
Timeless…

I loved playing mine. Such a different sound than the trumpet.

[I think his first movie foray was the title song to Steve McQueen’s debut movie, The Blob.]

“What do you get when you fall in Blob?”

He reworked it later on and it was a hit.

“Artistes” trend the opposite of whatever rules their world.

They’re anti-commie when ruled (with iron fist) by commies, but commie when not.

Haven’t heard Baby It’s You mentioned yet.

Or Make It Easy On Yourself (Walker Brothers)

Or Always Something There to Remind Me (Sandie Shaw then later Naked Eyes had a huge hit with it.)

And the least Burt Bacharach/Hal David performance ever... Love’s “My Little Red Book.”
