A woman who championed “traditional American values” was booted from the Virginia Board of Education one week after sparring with another board member over whether public schools should present socialism as “incompatible with democracy.”
“I thought people celebrated diversity. Whether it’s diversity of thought, diversity of viewpoint or diversity of any of the many characteristics?” Suparna Dutta, who immigrated to the United States from India, told Fox News ahead of the vote. “I’m flummoxed.”
Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin appointed Dutta to the Virginia Board of Education in July. Dutta was set to be confirmed by the Senate of Virginia Tuesday night along with a host of other appointees to various government positions.
But Virginia state Sen. Ghazala Hashmi introduced a last-minute amendment removing Dutta from the nominations. The amendment passed on a party-line vote, according to a progressive group that tracks the state’s General Assembly. […]
Dutta’s ousting follows a contentious exchange last week during a board meeting reviewing proposed changes to history and social science standards in Virginia public schools. Two of the foundational principles outlined in the learning standards are that the “Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are remarkable documents” and that socialism and communism are “incompatible with democracy and individual freedoms.”
Board member Anne Holton — who is married to Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine — said she was “uncomfortable” with that language. “You cannot reference the Declaration of Independence and Constitution as remarkable documents without also acknowledging that they contain fundamental flaws of enshrining slavery and limiting the protections that they provided for only to white, propertied men,” she said. …

Like with all progressives, she was booted by the authority of “We are in charge here; shut up and go away.” That’s the only authority they recognize.
I live in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia and I can assure you there is a very conservative chunk of the population here, but it’s probably only about 35% of the county.
And it’s true what you say about overpaid Fed workers. They aren’t leftist in idealogy, but they always vote Democratic to keep that healthy six-figure salary coming, i.e. stolen from the taxpayers.
What prompts the voters in Va. keep supporting Socialists to their Boards???????? Maybe they are using Dominion Voting Machines?

The three-fifths compromise was neither about “enshrining slavery” nor “protecting white people”. It was about preventing the slave states from having too much power in Congress, and to stop them spreading slavery elsewhere; they wanted to count their slaves as whole persons for the purposes of congressional district apportionment, thus giving them more representatives. Enough with spreading Obama’s propaganda, please.

I used to tell atheist acquaintances of mine that if you don’t believe in God, fine; but in the years to come you won’t be able to deny that there’s a devil and you’ll hope (if not pray) there is indeed a God.

The liberal/left complaint about the Declaration of Independence is a old and very well known one: hypocrisy:
“ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.“
The hypocrisy resides in the phrase “all men are created equal” since quite a number of the delegates to the 1776 Convention were slave owners. Despite being one himself, Thomas Jefferson’s initial draft of the Declaration is reported to have contained harsh criticism of slavery. It was toned down after his advisors informed him that such a radical view would never survive the review process.
Unmentioned is the hypocrisy of disenfranchising women and the use of means testing to restrict voting only to those white men of substance and property. Here you have prima fascia evidence for racism, misogyny, and classism; how typically upper class 18th Century of them!
So what! Curing the existing social ills of a very unequal society was not the Declaration’s purpose:
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.“ Etc.
One more item on slavery in the Constitution. In addition to the 3/5ths compromise, there was another caveat concerning slavery inserted in Article 1, Section 9. This clause seems to anticipate the end of the importation of slaves in 1808:
“Section. 9.
The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.”
Such a law prohibiting the importation of slaves was, in fact, passed by Congress in 1807 with an effective date of 1 January 1808. It was signed by President Thomas Jefferson:
