That is depressing. My uncle was based at Norton AFB in San Bernadino. He lived with his family in Redlands. We went to see them in 1970 and it was a very cool place then. Lots of families and small businesses.

I'd drive to Norton from the coast on weekends to pick my brother up for leave back in 1970. It was a respectable place, San Ber'doo. I remember a freeway to freeway transition ramp that must have been a good 80 feet above ground, and one time the old pickup with bald tires I was driving hydroplaned in a pouring rain. Scary.

The big event in town for the year was the "Orange Show". A century ago I think it was a Mormon enclave. I think nearby Loma Linda still is an enclave for Seventh Day Adventists.
