It takes courage to literally fight for your ideals, I have known many mercenaries, and all of them that I knew from the 70s and 80s were looking to fight against communism, it wasn’t money.
When it comes to these guys in Ukraine, how much are they making as volunteers? As far as I know, the volunteers in Ukraine are getting regular army pay.
Had a squad leader in ‘81 that went to Rhodesia under an assumed name for a couple of years after Viet Nam, still had his Rhodesian camo and pics from his time in Africa.
Hated communism.
One of the more interesting people I’ve met.
Jean-Pierre and his buddy Gilbert, FFL para retirees in S. Florida were a couple more cut from the same cloth.
All three were mercenaries after a fashion and I had nothing but respect for them, still stay in touch with Gilbert, met him when he did my tile, lol.
I used to go out in Biscayne bay on his sail boat with he and his girl friend, a S. African gal with a BPM publishing business who told me about evading trade sanctions against the RSA.
My comment stands. Some do it for money, some do it for a rush. Our sick society has produced a bumper crop of those with a fetish for war. It’s unhealthy. Half the new pickups are flat olive or desert tan. Everyone runs around with their special forces beard. The gun stores are filled with nothing but ARs and Glock clones. A boring old beautiful hunting rifle in stock is a thing of the past.
They aren’t all after cash. Some are just after cool selfies and GoPro videos of shootouts. They are no different than bungee jumpers.
Anyone with a scrap of morality would not joining a nazi dominated military. And the fight against communism has nothing to do with the war in Ukraine.
My comment stands. There is a sickness that 20 plus years of constant war fetish and irreligious thinking has produced in our younger generation.
