You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

I’ve got that same print in color on this tablet. I made it into a jigsaw puzzle.

I just crank up the heat. Sure it’s expensive, but what else is a lifetime of work and saving for?

Roger that. Let my heirs freeze in the dark.

And then there is the parable of the bird and the cow plop....

The Moral of the Story

· First, not everyone who dumps on you is your enemy.

· Second, not everyone who cleans it off is your friend.

· Third, when you get dumped on, it is best to keep your mouth shut.

Only heir is an estranged sister and she gets $ from me every month. If she ends up freezing, so be it.

We had a relative heat wave here this AM. At that time it was +5°. Expected to get near +40° by 1500. Must be all those Chinese balloons causing these crazy fluctuations!

I know the drill, with estranged relatives who sponge. My grandkids live about two miles away and we see them about once a week, and on all major occasions. Still, baby, it’s cold outside.

(Just to clarify, my sponging relatives are not my grandkids, who are great. I feel obligated to help out relatives in trouble, but honestly I do not know anyone who has worked harder and lived more frugally, and given more generously* than me. When shiftless spendthrifts run into trouble, the temptation is to tell them to ask their hero Joe Biden for help. )

*My grandmother was generous, but not a sponge. She had the good sense to marry well.
