I think I see the 'problem'......................

Two things from the "study" and article that are obvious flaws:

A person making minimum wage would have to work 144 hours a week to afford a typical one-bedroom apartment – that's six full days, around-the-clock.

Minimum wage as a living wage? Again with this crap?

Since then, she has become a mom with a growing family, paying $1,400 for two bedrooms in Raleigh.

I'm so old I remember part of family planning meant having two parents to help with the costs of raising a "growing family".

You see this is smaller cities and suburbs too. Drive by a home and you can see 4 to 6 cars stacked together. Mostly young folks but there are older ones too. The apartment stock is not growing and there’s no where to go. Most of the jobs being created are low paying service jobs.

The study found that it would take 3.6 full-time jobs at minimum wage to afford a typical one-bedroom apartment in Raleigh and 4.0 full-time jobs to afford a typical two-bedroom

Its a good thing we have millions of illegals entering the country to drive down wages, while driving up demand for housing.

Of the population in the 50 largest cities, what percentage of people are only earning minimum wage, discounting students and / or minors?

The solution is simple. Sneak into Mehico. Wade back north across the Rio Grande wearing an LA Dodgers baseball cap and American flag T-shirt while carrying a Mexican flag. Turn yourself in to the Border Patrol. They’ll change the kids’ diapers and you’ll be living the life of luxury and partying in a five hundred dollar a night hotel room in New Yawk in no time.

$700/month for a one bedroom apartment is extremely cheap.

It more than double that here in southern NH. My son was paying $1750 an hour NW of Boston. He moved in with a buddy recently to save money. He now splits a two bedroom townhouse with him for $1200/month.

Is a father part of this sob story?

Who here is old enough to remember when men saw it as honorable to propose only when they knew they could support a household that included the young children that were likely to follow?

And honorable women of course would prepare to live modestly, if need be, for a husband they loved and committed to.

The expectation was that even men with little education could and would work themselves up from minimum wage work by being conscientious and reliable employees.

I rented a nice one bedroom garden apartment in Dallas (near Love Field) in 1975.

The rent:

$155 a month—included utilities

Cast LMBTQembers at Disney start under $30,000. They have to live four to a 4-bedroom in Orlando metro and spend half of what they make on rent. Schadenfreude!

Supply and demand. Growing cities have a brutal rent market. Not much you can do about it other than increase inventory. Dems try to do rent control, which compresses the market more.
