New Mexico considers roasted chile as official state aroma

When we moved here 17 years ago the first time we smelled it both my wife I and wondered who was smoking dope. It smells...similar.

Now we can tell the difference, but back then...

When we lived in Silver City, NM, all of the grocery stores would have a chile roaster set up in the parking lot. We’d buy a sack of green chiles and that would usually last until the next harvest.

It’s a great smell, but it seems silly to pass legislation to make it the state aroma.

Clovis NM, that’s the official aroma , it matches the springs in truth or consequences smell too. Damn chili’s , whose making this crap up?
