The Complete Holy Bible - NIVUK Audio Bible (youtube, read by David Suchet)
youtube.com ^ | David Suchet

Posted on 01/31/2023 10:39:50 AM PST by RoosterRedux

This is a link to the Entire NIV Bible read by David Suchet (played Hercule Poirot in Poirot (TV Series 1989–2013).

I have this on Audible and listen to it every night before bed and during the night if I have trouble sleeping (which is usually every night around 2-2:30).

If you've never read the Bible from beginning to end, this is a great way to do it.

I have now read the Bible several times through and go back and reread parts that speak to me over and over again.

At youtube, there is a complete list of all videos by book, so it is easy to navigate. I have gotten friends involved and they say that it has changed their lives.

So, if interested in the Bible, check it out. It is obviously perfect for people who have vision problems.

It's the Bible for crying out loud. It's powerful and supernatural.;-)

And it's free!

If the Son has one, you can guarantee the Father has one.

Sorry; but I cannot guarantee that.

The KJV says that GOD is SPIRIT and must be worshipped as such.

John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

It says so in The LDS quad; too.

... the Father has one.

Well, the bible is pretty explicit on just HOW Jesus got a human body.

What LDS scripture explains how god the Father got one?

Since there seems to be some comparison between the Father and Son here, can I assume the LDS organization teaches that there was a human woman involved with the Father getting his body in the same manner?

A great deal of effort was used to make sure those plates were protected and used for translation and nothing else before being returned to the angel.

Just HOW were they 'used'?

OTHER TESTIMONY OF THREE WITNESSES

Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, Martin Harris

"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."
---(David Whitmer, as published in the "Kansas City Journal," June 5, 1881,  and reprinted in the RLDS "Journal of History", vol. 8, (1910), pp. 299-300.

In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:

"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."

"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."
(Edward Stevenson, "One of the Three Witnesses", reprinted from Deseret News, 30 Nov. 1881  in Millennial Star, 44 (6 Feb. 1882): 86-87.)

In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:

"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."
(W.W. Blair interview with Michael Morse, Saints Herald, vol. 26, no. 12 June 15, 1879,  pp. 190-91.)

A single link might be better than that long post. You might ask the mods to delete it. It pretty much overwhelms everyone’s ping page...makes them inaccessible.

Rather than being grateful for the “injustice” of being born in an era of unprecedented high standard of living, being blessed with an environment of material comforts and tools unknown for about 6,000+ years of human history. in order to obtain power (and often esp. for many women, justify a life purpose without children) a Western liberal tends to be one who has a sneaking suspicion, that somehow, everyone everywhere in traditional society is engaging in racism, homophobia, transphobia, gynophobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia - and or Climate Change. And which if any, must be magnified, while promoting fornication, abortion, racism etc. under the premise of combating it as saviors of the oppressed. Thus fostering wokephobia.

The Father is Spirit, and yet has an only begotten Son, and we were created in the image of that Father. So when the Son says if ye have seen me ye have seen the Father, he is most certainly not claiming he is the father.

I suppose this was an answer to something, but not the question I ended with:

How did god the FATHER get a body?

I’m really not used to answering such, shall we say, simple yet loaded questions that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

I would suppose the answer is the same way you got yours. This earth and what goes on here is a mirror of life in the eternities on perhaps a somewhat lower plain. Marriage is eternal, families are eternal, the relationship with our Heavenly Father is eternal, and the only name given under heaven, whereby that relationship can be restored due to the fall of man, is in and through our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

He has given man commandments, shown us the straight and narrow path to Eternal Life, “and few their be that find it”.

It's too bad that you have to suppose.

I'd think an important detail like this should be spelled out clearly in scripture.

If not, I'm left wondering why GOD would allow the LSD organization to be looked down upon by the Christian world.

I wonder if there are any Evolutionists that are LDS?

It would be hard for them to accept human bodies before there were even any dinosaur bodies.

looked down upon by the Christian world.

The Christian world that hasn’t had it’s act together since the death of the original Apostles? That Christian world? Even the Reformation Couldn’t bring them together, but it certainly spawned some interesting interpretations of the Christian world.

And you are sticking with the very publication, that spawned the confusion, minus the heavenly connection and blithely attempt to inject that same confusion into discussion of revealed truth. I say carry on you are doing great.

May the Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ attend you, and we know it will, as it is in scripture, and we know that is sufficient, for the Christian world has declared it to be sufficient, despite what the Holy Bible says.

“Live long, and prosper”.

I don't think your choice of a religion to hope in has any better record:

With the Mormons (to be precise, the members of The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - based in Salt Lake City) intent on being called “Christians” after so many years of eschewing that word, and despite the fact that there are so many fundamental theological differences between Christianity and Mormonism, I often wonder:

How do members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints feel about calling the members of its various spin-off sects Latter-Day Saints, Christians, or Mormons? Or about those sects calling themselves Mormons or Latter-Day Saints? (There was an earlier campaign by LDS to have journalism style books use the word “Mormon” to refer only to LDS, and not RLDS, FLDS, or other LDS sects).

For a man who bragged about holding things together, Joseph Smith, Jr. doesn’t appear go have done a good job of it during his lifetime. Wycam Clark’s “Pure Church of Christ” spun off in 1831. This trend continued. There were six LDS sects spawned in the 1830s, eight in the 1840s, two in the 1850s, and seven in the 1860s.

Do those responsible for the “Mormons are Christians” campaign consider these denominations to be Mormons or Latter-Day Saints? Surely many of these denominations are much closer to mainstream LDS than LDS is to Christianity. Many stick to Smith’s teachings and old temple endowment ceremonies.

Are members of those LDS groups “Mormons”? “Latter Day Saints?” “Christians?”

Do the folks in Salt Lake City have a problem with any of those groups, who believe in the restoration of the original church by Joseph Smith, calling themselves Mormons or Saints?

Most of these divisions in the Latter-Day Saint movement occurred over the issue of polygamy or succession of the Prophet. Sects broke off when Joseph Smith was still alive, and when Brigham Young was named prophet, because they didn’t believe in the practice of plural marriage – either publicly, or in some cases when it was practiced in private and denied in public.

Of course, there was the great split between Rocky Mountain Saints and Prairie Saints, when LDS members couldn’t agree on a successor prophet to Smith, Jr., and the church went to Utah, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania under Brigham Young, Sidney Rigdon (senior member of the First Presidency), James Strang, Lyman Wight, Alpheus Cutler, William Smith, David Whitmer (a BOM witness), or Joseph Smith III (son of Joseph Smith, Jr.). Almost all of these individuals still has multiple sects in existence that date to an 1844 decision about who should be the next President/Prophet of the church.

The Prairie Saints split into sects over the issue of whether Smith practiced polygamy. Rocky Mountain Saints had many, many spinoff sects after the 1890 Manifesto – groups that still practice plural marriage.
