DALLAS — Stetson Bennett, the former Georgia quarterback who just led the Bulldogs to a second straight national championship, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication early Sunday morning in Dallas, police confirmed to WFAA.

The arrest happened around 6 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Tribeca Way in Old East Dallas, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a man banging on doors in the area, police said.

When the officers arrived, they found Bennett "and determined he was intoxicated," a police news release said.

A police report said officers were dispatched to the location on a suspicious person call. When they arrived, they found Bennett walking around inside a gated area, the report said.

Bennett told the officers his friend lived at the location, but he was unable to call them, according to the report. Officers then noted that Bennett smelled of alcohol, the report said, and they took him into custody.

He has probably ruined his future already. He has a rep of to much drink and this is not the first time.

I have heard of people getting stupid drunk in their youth. I, of course, would have never done such a thing. < /snark >

These problems typically don’t materialize over night. Like Henry Ruggs at Bama you have to wonder how much their respective coaching staffs knew about their drinking problem and what proactive measures were taken to address them.

I’m a Florida Gator Fan, but you have to give him major props, he was not recruited to UGA, he was a one time walkon player that loved UGA and wanted to be their starting QB and hung around despite Georgia recruiting one 5-star QB after another, only to end up as the started QB and won back to back National Championships, UGA now has 3 in their history and he was the starting QB on two of them.

He is the BMOC in Athens and probably doesn’t have to pay for food or drinks whenever he’s out having fun, I say give him a break.

Ruined his future? That’s quite a leap. He might destroy himself going forward, but this is hardly a big deal. He could have a bunch of illegitimate children and run for Senator someday…

One of Art Donovan’s best stories, was when he tackled Bobby Layne, and could smell the alcohol on him....”Boy you must have had a heckuva a night last night!”, and Bobby tells him “I had a few at halftime.”

NFL notes twist in Stetson Bennett story, ‘obviously he’s not in a great place’

The guy's real problem has nothing to do with intoxication, does it...

6ft tall and already 25 years old, I suspect he will not make it as an NFL quarterback

Were you ever young? This doesn’t mean he has a “drinking problem”. It means he partied and got busted for public intoxication. Could have happened to me many times when I was younger, but fortunately it didn’t.

Just another football player in the ‘tween years of BMOC and NFL rookie. No pressure there...
