A comment on YT sums it up : " A beautiful musical statement of love...written for his ( John Lydon of Sex Pistols fame ) dear wife, Nora, as she spends her final moments with her husband. I have to believe that the sparse, gentle and relaxing backing track and, simple, poignant and highly personal/meaningful lyrics resonates deeply with Nora - even as she continues to decline with her health. This is a really special piece of music. "
wow
I’ve lived in Hawaii 22 years now.
This place is infested with Democrats, ruled by them, and nowhere near as pleasant as that video portrays.
But I like it here and I’m not leaving.
Sounds like New York, only here we don’t have palm trees, sandy beaches and restaurants where you don’t need windows.
Augggghhhhh!!!!
Haven’t seen the word PIL in like 30 years and now I can’t get the lyrics “This is not a love song…This is not a love song….” To stop rattling in my skull
Visited the Big Island from Japan 3 times between 2006 and 2012 and loved the place . Yes , I know about the negatives but I’d still live there if I were a rich man .
Hawai’i: 👎
John Lydon/PIL: 👍
RIP Keith.
I’m not rich. I just have no debt and timed things right.
up until recently I was considered low income. I’m just now middle class income. You don’t come here if you have to pay rent or a mortgage.
Bflv
“I never thought I’d live to see the day when the right wing would become the cool ones giving the middle finger to the establishment, and the left wing becoming the sniveling self-righteous twatty ones going around shaming everyone.” - Johnny Rotten
Got to love Johnny !
On which island do you reside ?
I adore John Lydon, and this video just gutted me.
He’s mellowing with age, and this song made me cry.
His devotion to Nora (his wife) is so humbling.
While listening I shed a few tears myself . If it were my wife...
Johnny was the only one who had the guts in the 70s to call out the BBC for harboring Jimmy Savile.
And my Japanese wife and I have been to the Big Island 3 times , visiting from Japan .
BI, Hamakua side.
Have been through there a couple of times on the way to Hilo . I envy you a bit .
Well, I totally understand. I have loved that wild, crazy, snaggle toothed red head since I first saw him on 60 Minutes when I was 9.
And it hits home, as well.
Five years ago, my husband was on his way to work. Crossed the street (he had the green) but a school teacher speeding to work ran the red.
My husband took a ride on his hood, hit his head on a curb. Spent the next three months in a neuro ward, then a rehab facility. By the grace of G-d, he survived, and despite three brain bleeds in the occipital lobe, has made an almost 90% recovery. THe dude has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of jazz... and he hasn’t lost ANY of it.
Still, at 50 years old, he walks with a walker, has some memory issues (but not much.) and some minor facial paralysis.
He forces himself to do as much as he can, walks, hits the gym, but is often asked if he is drunk when he’s at work (he does tech support/IT for a major company) because the voice over IP really does a number with his voice.
We have learned how cruel and mean the average John and Johnette Q Public can be, but he doesn’t let it phase him.
Still, he can never fly again, so our trips to Germany and Switzerland will never materialize.
But this was a real wake up call for the both of us, and it has been a real test of our devotion to each other.
Actually, that last part? Not really. It’s my honor as his wife to be at his side through thick and thin.
And it makes us proud to be Gen X punk rockers (and big time Pistols, PiL fans because of Johnny.)
