Russian President Vladimir Putin avoided commenting on Germany's landmark decision on Wednesday to supply tanks to Ukraine during a visit to Moscow State University, instead dispensing career advice to students and fielding questions on other topics.
Putin, a fluent German speaker who served in the former East Germany as a KGB officer, spent more than an hour responding to students' questions on issues ranging from lost dogs to quantum technology, though the war in Ukraine also kept cropping up indirectly.
Putin took a swipe at Western countries by suggesting some were using the Ukraine war as an excuse to "cancel" Russian culture...but said Russians would continue to enjoy Beethoven and Bach.
"We are part of world culture," he said.
In his remarks, Putin made only an indirect allusion to current international tensions, commenting that Germany "strictly speaking" remained under U.S. military occupation - a reference to allied troops stationed in the NATO country.
"Much of what is happening (now) has deep roots... Sovereignty will be returned to Europe, but it seems this will take time," he added.

There are millions of patriotic Americans in the USA today. Millions of good people who have done nothing wrong, who live perfectly normal lives, who love their country, neighbors, way of life, etc. Huge numbers of the population attend church weekly and vote like they believe in their religion, whereas in Russia barely 7% of the population can be depended upon to attend church once a month. Norway has higher religiousity than the Russia of today. Meanwhile, Russia is corrupt at every level of society, with millions of people lacking basic things like toilets due to huge amounts of corruption and decay. The "morality" of the nation is that of the gulag where it's OK to rape a man if you feel like, as often happens at epidemic levels in the Russian military.
