Japanese Prime minister Fumio Kishida pledged on Monday (Jan 23) to take urgent steps to tackle the country's declining birth rate, saying it was "now or never" for one of the world's oldest societies.
Japan has in recent years been trying to encourage its people to have more children with promises of cash bonuses and better benefits, but it remains one of the most expensive places in the world to raise a child, according to surveys.
Births plunged to a new record low last year, according to official estimates, dropping below 800,000 for the first time - a watershed moment that came eight years earlier than the government had expected.

Japan is the most homogenous country in the world. Basically zero risk of them believing immigrants is the solution for them. Foreigners no matter how long they live there are not assimilated into the culture.

I visited Kiev 2016 and 2017. As far as I could tell, 99% of the people live in high rise apartments. There were very few detached houses.

I have watched several documentaries about Japan. Their young people are completely immersed in phony worlds and have no idea how to interact with each other. One shows Japanese women fawning over foreign men because they actually talk and flirt with them. Hmm. Maybe I should go to Japan.

That’s very hard to believe. They might “tie their tubes”, but I doubt they are giving them hysterectomies, that would send those women into premature menopause and would be quite obvious.
