The painting has an overall texture of smoothness and fullness. The second painting would have made a fine sculpture. Of the 3 adult figures, the Madonna is the only one who’s drapery shows the effect of gravity.
There is a mild breeze coming from the upper left, that moves her garments away from the figure. The kneeling figures are untouched by that breeze. Perhaps that ‘breeze’ is symbolic of being acknowledged by the Holy Spirit.
*The Chirst Child is not an infant, but a toddler in this piece. He has legs that look long enough, strong enough for him to be walking on his own.
