Donald Trump Warns GOP Against Cutting Medicare, Social Security Amid Debt Ceiling Fight
Breitbart ^ | 20 Jan 2023 | NICK GILBERTSON

Former President Donald Trump warned Republicans not to vote for any cuts to social security or medicare as lawmakers spar over the debt ceiling.

“Under no circumstances should Republicans vote to cut a single penny from medicare or social security to help pay for Joe Biden’s reckless spending spree, which is more reckless than anybody’s ever done or had in the history of our country,” Trump began at the start of his latest campaign video, released Friday.

He emphasized that Biden and the Democrats have “wasted trillions on left-wing lunacy” and that they have “thrown open our treasury and our borders to migrants from all over the world.”

“While we absolutely need to stop Biden’s out-of-control spending, the pain should be borne by Washington bureaucrats, not by hardworking American families and American seniors,” said the 45th president, adding that seniors have been “absolutely destroyed in the last two years.”

Last week, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen penned a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) predicting that the $31.3 trillion debt ceiling would be reached on January 19. On Thursday, she informed McCarthy that it had been reached. To keep the United States from defaulting on its exorbitant debt, Yellen said that she would begin to use “extraordinary measures.”

“While Treasury is not currently able to provide an estimate of how long extraordinary measures will enable us to continue to pay the government’s obligations, it is unlikely that cash and extraordinary measures will be exhausted before early June,” she wrote in her January 13 letter to McCarthy.

Same way they do now.
How many people do you think are tracking their FICA ‘contributions’ and weighing them against the checks they get when they’re elderly? It’s not going to be even 10% of the population.

I have already collected 3 times what I put into SS & Medicare taxes. I signed up at age 62 and now in superb health at age 82 and 10 months. I should make it to age 100 unless a nasty cancer hits me.

I second that motion. But t fiscal conservatives in Congress are a thin minority now. The spenders are in full control

My math at 5% interest tells me I will collect from 62 to 79 to break even. I had a pacemaker put in at 62. My odds are not at breaking even.

It’s all part of the scheme. One of the problems with liberal financial operations is that they need to hide money. They say a new tax is for something and then use it for pork projects like the Arts which has nothing remotely to do with the reason for the taxes.

With the destruction of medicare and social security, it is going to put a huge deficit into the government coffers to provide for people and keep them happy enough to vote dem. Ever notice that every time the government runs out of money there always seems to be backup funds somewhere to avert a disaster especially if it is going to get into their pay check? And every fund they have, no matter what it’s for or how earmarked, is a backup.

Well, they also have to have a reason to ride in on their white horse and save the day, so they need to create a shortfall. And in some cases, like this one, the already have the tax money on the wealthy so they need a disaster to spend it on. Problem solved.

He’s right cutting those programs is suicide. And that’s why America will never survive.

No. They just want to cut those programs and saddle everybody with more debt. Only the stupid party is willing to accept the blame.

Since never. “

Since always, and as recently as last week. Do some Googling - put in “social security” and “McConnell” or “Ryan” or “ Graham” or “Thune” or “Scott” or “rep Rick Allen” or “House Republican Study Committee”. They’re all calling for cuts in Social Security.

The Dems are just quoting what McConnell, Thune, Lindsey and Romney said last month. The GOP leaders have said many times they want to cut Social Security. Trump has heard them and he’s telling them to knock it off

When people can’t meet their basic needs for survival and bureaucrats want to cut that even further...something is very wrong.

I know one thing. The definition of poverty has changed, drastically. And even more so under demonrats.

We first need to have an honest discussion about SS before any reforms can be made. When you have a real rate of return of 1.2% it doesn’t make sense not to reform it.
