1) I pick recipes with ingredients that can be used for multiple meals (and in multiple ways). This also includes getting creative with leftovers.

This is the key - could be time for Sydney Martin to write a cookbook 'Food by the week - Waste Not Want Not...'

Yup...I'm buying 5.5 lb package of ground beef this week...and will make...meat loaf, chili and meatballs for homemade spaghetti sauce. I throw a chunk of pork butt in my sauce, a bit of powdered fennel in lieu of sausage. It's so hard to stop eating all the meatballs before the sauce is done.

Last time I made sauce, I made 100 meatballs....cooked in the oven on a cookie sheet. It's so great with the kids not living at home....no sharing. Bad mom!! lol
