China has been doing this for a long time with AliPay/WeChat Pay - even when I was there last in 2019 a lot of employees looked at you like you had two heads if you tried to pay them in cash. Foreigners, of course, are not allowed to use these payment systems.

and every time you ask your friend to pick up a.... at the store. And you “pay them back” electronically..

make sure you add 3% for processing fees and 35% so they are whole as what you sent is “income” subject to tax..
