On the afternoon of Wednesday, January 18 in East Memphis, Tennessee, a woman was nearly kidnapped while out for a jog with her dog, reported WREG Memphis.
Just before 3 p.m. local time, a damaged grey vehicle with tinted windows and no hubcaps pulled up alongside the 28-year-old woman, who has remained anonymous in all reports. The suspect in the driver’s seat was reportedly weaaring a black ski mask and gloves. The suspect in the backseat opened the door and attempted to grab her. The victim ran away screaming for help.
The woman’s neighbor, Laura Slavney, saw the events unfold from her kitchen window. She quickly went to her garage to tell her husband, who was working on their house with a contractor. The three of them approached the victim to assist.
“She ran to us, and [the vehicle] backed up and headed west,” Slavney told Action News 5. “We were all just standing out there talking, and we were like, ‘What just happened?’ What do you think they were doing?’ It was very scary. She thought she was being kidnapped.”
The victim’s home, which was nearby to the incident, caught security footage of the car fleeing the scene.
On September 2, 2022 in East Memphis, just a mile from the location of this week’s incident, teacher Eliza Fletcher was abducted and killed during a run. A week after her death, running communities around the U.S. gathered to show support, symbolically running four miles to “Finish Eliza’s Run.”
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. I looked up Fox & it looks really good. We only go thru Memphis when we have to go to the airport. The sweet asian girl who does my pedicure lives right in the line of Mississippi & TN. She said her boyfriend’s truck has had the windows broken twice from people trying to get stuff. Memphis is another world. And not a good one. It’s such a shame because it has great attractions. But nothing is worth losing your life for a pleasurable evening. We get flights that leave in the daytime.
We don’t need those midtowners or whatever moving down here 😜
Book mark.
Medieval, spiked variety.
Joggers need to be armed - chiefly because of dogs. Have jogged (mostly along wooded paths, etc.) for more than 40 years - have never been attacked by a person (they'd have to be crazy!). Have frequently (four or five times) been attacked by dogs.
Regards,
If you know a USPS employee, ask for some of their dog spray. It is very good.
“Probability, while jogging, of being attacked by a dog is far greater than that of being attacked / assaulted / kidnapped by a human.”
I carried a Ruger LCP when I used to jog. There was a pit bull looking dog always chained in a front yard on my route. One day he was off the chain and charged at me. I drew down on him and made an imaginary line that if he crossed I’d shoot him. As God as my witness, that dog recognized my gun when I pointed it at him and made a dead stop. The owner came out and got the dog and never said one word to me.
You can jog on a treadmill in the gym.
I know, it’s still not a good exercise modality.
Look at most people on treadmills.
Lifting, sprinting, walking, swimming, yoga, hiking, sports...
Circa 1960 it was quite a bustling city
One if my best friends lives in collierville & grew up in Germantown. She talks about all the wonderful things they would do in Memphis. She loved Oak Court Mall, as did I long ago, but that’s been ruined too. I taught in Holly springs & every spring we would take the kids to the Memphis zoo. It was great & safe because we were on buses & all together. I would never venture there with my husband......just not worth the risk. It’s amazing how a group of people intent in bad things have ruined a once great city.
One guy recently went to pay his respects to Lisa Marie Presley at Graceland & when he got back to his car he found a bag with several thousand dollars missing & some computer devices gone. The computer had a tracker, so the police retrieved his things quickly. It shouldn’t be this way. A cliche, but it is what it is now. And it ain’t good & it’s not fixable I believe.
I’m glad you have great memories!
Apparently, you just run…
