My grandmother lived to be 106—drank and smoked in moderation.
She had the real secret to longevity and was kind enough to share it with me back when I was a teenager:
“Never believe anything they say on TV.”
If you ignore the “experts” you will live long and prosper.
My grandmother had a couple of heart attacks in her 80s, and then the big one when she was shoveling snow about 6 weeks before her 100th birthday. She never smoked, but liked a good belt of Scotch in the evening.
As far as longevity goes, I figure that whatever you’re doing when you reach 80 must be working, so keep it up.
I'll bet she wasn't obese. Obesity will kill you when the others won't.
Hopefully she gave you some of the good genes she had.
