Gray and her colleagues caught the animal and brought it back to their office, where it weighed in at a 2.7 kg (6 pounds).
Gray’s colleague, senior park ranger Barry Nolan, told Reuters the animal was euthanised due to its “ecological impact” — the usual fate for the toads across Australia.
Cane toads were introduced to Australia in 1935 to control cane beetles and other pests but their population exploded and with no natural predators they have become a threat to Australian species, Nolan said.
Toadzilla’s body was donated to the Queensland Museum for research.

Let’s be clear here. The Aussies had a problem with beetles. Someone determined these toads would eat the beetles. It turns out the toads are nocturnal and the beetles are diurnal. Now they have billions of gigantic toads and not one beetle has been eaten. This is how government bureaucrats work.

Well, to be fair, are the toads eating any rodents?

Big for a toad, but not big enough to destroy Tokyo.
Toads are related to frogs. Maybe toads' legs make good eating.

I didn’t know, so I did a quick search. It turns out they will eat anything that will fit in their mouths, including other cane toads. It also turns out river rats have figured out how to deftly carve up and eat the toads. There has apparently been no redeeming value to the introduction of the species.

Evidently, at least one predator has learned how to deal with these toads poisonous secretions:

I’d guess that raccoons do this for similar reasons. Not that anybody who has to deal with them wants a lot of raccoons around.
