Hungary expects Ukrainian leaders to make every effort to stop the attacks and atrocities suffered by ethnic Hungarians, Tamas Menczer, the foreign ministry state secretary for external relations, said on public radio on Friday.
Menczer reacted to reports that Hungarian flags and signs have been removed in Mukachevo district (Munkacs), in western Ukraine, and the director of a local Hungarian school, Istvan Schink, was sacked.
Before the war, “the ethnic Hungarian community was being stripped of their rights”, he said, citing measures that restricted the use of their mother tongue and education in Hungarian.

There’s been a lot of pro- and anti-Ukrainian propaganda floating around. Hard to separate fact from fiction. But Hungary has been relatively neutral in the conflict. So what they are saying here probably has merit.
In Before The FR Banderites Attack The Hungarian Messengers...
Team Biden, FR will now be unleashed upon the Hungarians.
What struck me - its the Hungarian Foreign Ministry saying it. Not some random "analyst" or journalist. It means this issue has made it to the top of Hungary's Gov't, and they have deliberated before making such charges.
LOL, right learning the language of the country you live in is an attack. Okay
“the ethnic Hungarian community was being stripped of their rights”,
Sound Familiar?
Naw, cant be. There are no banderite naxi orgs in THE UKRAINE now are there?
What say you, war whores?
One of them showed up already.
Well do you believe schools in the US should teach all classes in Spanish or other foreign languages? Or should students learn the language of the country they live in? That's the "controversy" in Ukraine. Hungary wants schools in Ukraine, to teach only in Hungarian.
> learning the language of the country you live in is an attack <
Your gentle sarcasm would indeed be on-target had those ethnic Hungarians moved into Ukraine voluntarily. In cases like that, you should adopt the language of your new country, period.
But that’s not the case here. Borders move. That was partially true after WW I. So it wasn’t Hungarians moving to Ukraine. It was the Ukrainian border moving over Hungarians.
In cases like that, I would think that folks have a right to preserve their heritage. Kinda like American Indians on a reservation.
Ukrainian-Hungarian border hasn't moved since WW2.
“It was the Ukrainian border moving over Hungarians.”
And Hungary was part of the Axis and joined the Germans in slaughtering millions of Ukrainians.
It was entirely justified that after the war Hungary lost a chunk of territory to Ukraine, and that that territory should be home to Ukrainians.
“FR Banderites Attack The Hungarian Messengers...”
If you think it’s a problem that some Ukrainians sided with the Nazis, then you’re going to be very angry when you learn what Hungary got up to in WWII.
Ukrainians are just common AZOV thugs. That is why Russia is in their hellhole right now. If they quit attacking people in their own country, they would be left alone.
> Ukrainian-Hungarian border hasn’t moved since WW2. <
Oh, yes. Agreed. But that doesn’t matter much. Hungarians on the “wrong” side of the border still consider themselves to be ethnically Hungarian. Just as a Cherokee living off official Cherokee land still considers himself to be Cherokee. There is nothing wrong with that.
But I will concede one point to you. Those Hungarians have every right to teach their children Hungarian. They even have the right to teach them only Hungarian. But it is a major mistake to teach them only Hungarian.
Such a thing only serves to fracture a society.
Siding with Russia in a country that is at war with Russia has consequences.
“Not only are ethnic Russians targeted by the Azov Nationalist-Nazi-ideologues.”
Not possible, as we’re told AGAIN AND AGAIN, here, that the Azovs are now GOOD Nazis - therefore these must be Ruzzians in Drag attacking the Ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine.
You raise an interesting, and fair point. But it’s also fair to point out that Hungary was a somewhat reluctant ally of Nazi Germany. Some say Hungary joined the Axis out of greed, to gain territory.
Others say it was to avoid the same fate that befell Yugoslavia. (As you might know, the Yugoslavs hesitated to play ball with Hitler. So they were quickly overrun, and occupied.)
In Hungary’s case it was probably some combination of greed and self-preservation.
Anyway, I must make a gentle correction to your post. Hungary lost most of its territory after WW I, not WW II.
Poland passed and banned the Bandera ideology just over one year ago. Russian ethnic groups got sick and tired of the scum Ukrainians in their region, and NOW Hungary has about enough of it.
Split the hole of a country up and parcel it out and execute every single Banderite and Azov bastard found.
Orban's government has been consistently pro-Russian.
