David Crosby, the singer, songwriter and guitarist and member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, has died.
His wife, Jan Dance, told Variety Thursday, "It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us."
She continues, "His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Born in Los Angeles, David founded the band The Byrds in 1964, finding their first number one hit ... only a year later thanks to a cover of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man."
It was in 1968 when Crosby formed Crosby, Stills & Nash with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. The group won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1969.
Over the years, members of the group were able to collab with other artists freely -- and did so with the likes of Neil Young at Woodstock.
Crosby was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both a member of The Byrds and for his efforts with Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Grace Slick was another Hippy who grew up extremely wealthy. Slick’s family was one of the wealthiest and most established families in San Francisco.
Never a fan of anything David Crosby- music and all the rest
Indeed. The 60s scene was filled with rich kids and sons of the military industrial complex representing the “counter-culture.”
I didn’t know that was the first song they sang together. Thanks for that and for the link. So fantastic! I’m still listening to it...
I love ‘Southern Cross’ too:

Good Riddance, you smelly old leftist nutbag hippie
Descendants of the Van Rensselaer family... of Rensselaer Polytechnic.
yes he did.
Yes,he was a Kommie...but he did some good stuff!
I want you to be right. She was often strict.
When some shady figures in the television business made moves to get her out of the ownership of the EWTN TV network she founded starting with nothing and gain financial control in a hostile takeover she defied them. “Before I let them win I’ll burn down the network.”
Like Father Mitch Pacwa and Raymond Arroyo and others on the network, she was criticized:
At the beginning of my article Fr. Richard Kennedy is quoted. His short letter ends with a label: Mother Angelica “chose to follow the road to the extreme far right”–and then, one supposes, she fell over the edge of the world. It wasn’t enough for Kennedy to classify her as “conservative” or even as “reactionary.” She had to be placed among the denizens of the “far right,” and not anywhere on the “far right,” but at the “extreme” end of it. Perhaps he thinks her closest neighbor is Attila the Hun.”” Bashing Mother Angelica by Karl Keating.
A lung transplant too? A good friend of mine passed away in June at 64... while waiting for set of lungs.
Yeah, real easy to be a rebel when you have “FU Money”.
In December 1969 “Suite:Judy Blue Eyes” convinced me not to go AWOL from BCT at Fort Knox. It’s a long story...but that song has always had a huge place in my heart. For that reason and because I’ve always had a thing for Judy Collins.
Indeed. Jim Morrison's father was an admiral in the USN.
Knew him briefly a million years ago in LA. Nicest guy ever. A total lefty but he and Jan were great. RIP
He was holding a huge grudge against Neil Young (And Young to him).
As the saying goes, you can’t hitch-hike across America like Jack Kerouac with a wallet full of credit cards.
David had a charmed life as part of the lucky sperm club. It’s no wonder women were begging for his sperm.
Southern Cross is a great tune.
+1 Keith Richards
Talented, But he was actually a bigger douche in my experience than Crosby.
