Why sex on the first date is a good idea: Relationship expert slams 'old fashioned' mentality and urges singles to get it on right away

A relationship expert has defended people having sex on a first date, with almost half of Aussies admitting to doing the deed straight away.

Relationship, sex, and mental health therapist Rachel Wright, from New York, said there is no 'right time' to have sex with a new partner and going for it on the first date can quickly determine if you want to continue the relationship.

According to a study, 49 per cent of participants said they have slept with someone on the first date, with those who don't saying they prefer to establish an emotional connection before getting into bed.

Relationship expert Rachel Wright said there are benefits to having sex on the first date as a new study found almost half of the participants said they have the deed right away

I have to totally and respectfully disagree with this.
In the eyes of the law, yes, men and women should be held to the same standard. In society, this is not so. And it isn’t so because to do that would not work, and society would come crashing down, as we see happening all around us.
The big difference is the circumstances of the times. In Old Testament times and before, the main concern was the survival of the people, as a group, religious or otherwise. Laws were created to protect their identity as opposed to other peoples.
Women must not do this.. Men must do that... Women must not have sex outside of marriage. Men must get circumcised. Notice no one required women to be circumcised! That would be stupid. That is not a double standard, that is a different standard.
Women were required to be pure for a reason. To be cherished by the men as a treasure, thereby keeping them home. No one cared at all if the men were virgins coming into the marriage. In truth, a man who is clueless about sex makes for a bad family.. true to this day.
In modern times, we are not concerned with the survival of the people and we have become permissive and lax. If the times were again to turn and we were to see an imminent existential threat, we would again tighten up on our social constrictions and you would see these trans-perversions blow away in the wind like old leaves.

The Catholic Church lays the burden on the woman to be responsible for saying ‘No’ when it comes to sex.

ArtDodger: I'm curious, here ... are you Catholic? Your impression of Catholic Church teaching on sexuality is rather different from mine.

Ah yes. And any incidental children (birth control, if used, does not always work) can be totalled. Or, raised like a pet, shuffling here and there. Who cares.

Widowed 12 years. No debt. Big nest egg. Work every day. Haven’t met anyone to be traditional with; however, I’ve perfected enjoying living alone. (Maybe I should get this wart on my nose removed. j/k)

We aren't told what happened to the man. Had the woman's husband killed him already? Had he run away?

As it stands the story is about forgiveness and about hypocrisy (on the part of the scribes and Pharisees). How would the Gospel author have handled the story if both the man and the woman had been brought before Jesus? Could both have been forgiven without appearing to make light of adultery?

I am not Catholic but in my youth, I spent quite a bit of time in discussions with Catholics, men and women, and with priests.
In an effort to be concise, I may have used too simple a sentence.
When unmarried youngsters are engaged in heavy petting, it can get a bit out of control. The girls were to be aware of the signs in men, flushed face, heavy breathing, etc. Theirs was the responsibility to take action and steer the activity back to a more standard practice. Also, good Catholic boys were taught to honor the girls wishes and cool off. Now, this was the advice given by elders in the 60s. Are you saying that you were taught differently? My advice was given, lo, over 50 years ago, but it seems to have served me well in those difficult times.

In the Frat I was told "no,no,no" really means "yes, yes, yes"

Also "Don't, stop" has a different meaning than "Don't stop!".

Lotta room for ‘what ifs’ in the parables. We can only wonder.
I once knew a Rufus from Virginia. Are you from the Roanoke area?

I was taught as a Catholic boy to actively avoid near occasions of sin ... That includes getting too “involved” with a girl. The idea that chastity is primarily the girl’s job, and that I had no (or less) responsibility for self-control is utterly alien to my upbringing. So yes, I was taught in the ‘70s very differently from what you describe.
