The U.S. price cuts on Tesla's global top-sellers the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover SUV were between 6% and 20%, Reuters calculations showed, with the basic Model Y now costing $52,990, down from $65,990.
Tesla also cut prices for its Model X luxury crossover SUV and Model S sedan in the United States...
The move marks a reversal from the automaker's strategy over the last two years when new vehicle orders exceeded supply. It comes after CEO Elon Musk warned that the prospect of recession and higher interest rates meant it could lower prices to sustain growth at the expense of profit...
Shares ended down 0.9% after falling as much as 6.4% on Friday. Last year, Tesla stock had its worst year since the company's inception due to slowing growth in China and Musk's distraction with Twitter.
In Germany, Tesla lopped prices by about 1% to almost 17% on the Model 3 and the Model Y. The best-selling Model Y will now go for 44,890 euros ($48,499), down 9,100 euros.
It also reduced prices in Austria, Switzerland and France...
The move broadens the vehicles in Tesla's line-up eligible for the Biden administration tax credit.
Before the price cut, the five-seat version of the Model Y had been ineligible, which Musk called "messed up." After the price cut, the long-range version of the Model Y will qualify.

Because the Tesla is a lot heavier than a regular IC car
A collection of Tesla's in an overhead parking garage might cause a collapse.
Not to mention an occasional battery overload and spontaneous combust.
Anyway the decrepit power grid in CA cant cope with the charging.

There is only one problem. We need a better battery.
One that charges in 5 minutes, does not wear out at 100,000 miles, gives a charge in hot and cold and is not heavy.
Maybe some day that will happen.
Until then we must use ICEs.

Good point. And it's another point in favor of ICE vehicles - they continue to function even 10 - 20 years after purchase without spending half the original cost again in replacing a battery.
It’s reasonable to think that anyone who can afford a Tesla can afford the charger and the installation of the outlet.

Model S range increased from 265 miles in 2012 to over 350 miles now. Model X AWD shows 347 miles. Model Y RWD, 283 miles, AWD, 318 miles. Model 3 standard 272 miles, Long Range model 350ish.
Teslas have regenerative braking.
Lucid makes nice-looking cars, great range, but without more investment (basically, they need a backer already in the ICE business, I doubt that its current Saudi backing will endure) the 7,180 vehicles it produced (delivered 4,369) in 2022 will be difficult to double in 2023.
Mercedes apparently plans to drop the EQ name in 2024 as it phases out all gasoline and diesel vehicles, and be all-electric in the future.

Tesla (and Elon Musk) claims its EV batteries can last between 300,000 and 400,000 miles before they die and need to be replaced. Data collected by research firm NimbleFins seems to back this up — a study of 557 Tesla vehicles conducted by the company showed an average of 90% battery capacity even with 150,000 miles on the odometer.

Dr. Jason Bloomberg, an overnight inpatient hospitalist at the Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Medical Center, drove his Tesla to work the night of Dec. 21 when an Arctic blast sent temperatures plummeting more than 40 degrees in a very short time.
He charged it up to 90% before he left for work and was down to 72% when he arrived. He lost 10% more range overnight during his shift. He lost another 10% more charge warming up the battery, but he had enough power to get home in the extreme cold.
Bloomberg also speculated that the Steavensons’ rental car was likely malfunctioning.
Whatever the case, he said that it’s not normal for a Tesla to lose that much range from cold weather. He gets irritated with the way such bad experiences are reported.
“If an EV malfunctions, then it becomes, in the media circus, emblematic of all EVs,” Bloomberg said.

I am from Minnesota. We need more global warming!
Electric is a fine solution for certain subset of needs, but it can’t compete in the general case.
If your needs fit within this subset then by all means buy yourself an electric car.
If you need a general case vehicle however, and you buy one of these as your only vehicle you will be disappointed.
Here is an example:
