I could be wrong but it appears this weasel used the moratorium to avoid paying the electric bill, I did not see in the article where he mentioned hardship in paying. So they are moving out and the bill will need to be paid. I hope his roommates stiff him.

My roommates are younger than me, and I don’t want to hurt their credit by suing in small-claims court. Pretty simple. A couple of "gentle reminders" (verbally, text messaging, etc). Then send an email. Then a follow up email. (30 days later or so). Afterwards, sue in small-claims court.
Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Ask them about it. If no satisfactory answer round up 25 homeless people and send them into the apartment on the last night. Tell the homeless lunatics that the roomies are looking for love and no means yes. Jk

The irony in this is rich...
He stiffed the utility company and now he’s worried about himself getting stiffed.
I’m getting a rush of schadenfreude.

Don’t use your credit card they’ll probably call it a cash advance , ouch

Tool. Yeah. You didn’t HAVE to pay, but those KWH’s keep racking up. You could have easily paid it the whole time, but tried to get away with not paying. Then found out you had to pay. Fool.

Being as it was in his name. He could have had it shut off as soon as his roommates did not pay.

I got news for him, it’s in his name, he opened the account and he is stuck with paying it. If he doesn’t it goes against his Credit Report. He can try and sue in small claims, but without any proof they agreed to help pay the bill he may be stuck.
Better get on a payment plan and figure it out.

Looks like we’ve got a moochy homo wanting to skip out on it’s bills.
Lock it up, and all it’s gay pals too.

Better get a part-time job and start saving up that $1,600, ‘lennial. It looks like that’s probably your only option.

See if you can file a lien on any significant piece of property they may have, such as a vehicle.

I’m concerned that one of my roommates will just drop communication when it comes time to pay, given that the bill is in my name. In this case he would only be out $500 or so. It is probably not worth spending any legal fees to try and recover if he doesn't pay up. People like this will bury themselves at some point.
