Wandering my way thru husband's flower photographs and found these. The cereus was a gift from a cousin, a descendant of 3rd great grandfather, Henry Bicker Gibson, whose railroad was one of those merged to create the New York Central. Here's a new music video of Henry B. Gibson, banker and railroadman (1783-1863). Unfortunately, I re-potted the cereus 7 years ago and it hasn't bloomed since.

That’s a beautiful flower. When the bud is closed, it resembles a succulent type of plant, one that is soft textured and full of water. When fully open, the flower resembles the
purple crocus flowers that grew in my family’s garden where I grew up.
I recall reading a novel where the Egyptian King had a garden planted on an outside balcony. The garden was in shape of a clock. Each hour in the day held a flower that would bloom during that hour. This included nightblooms.
Thus, when kidnapped maiden was looking for a way to escape the King’s palace, she used that Hour-Garden to conclude it was still too early to make a run for it, because the Datura or Moon Flower was only partially open.
What a SUPERB story.
The branches look like a cactus plant and it REALLY doesn’t like a lot of water.
