The formula should include all the thousands of acres to accommodate 18-wheelers while they wait for hours to charge their batteries.
Current truck stops are not equipped for either the volume or the holdover and I sense that there will need to be 3x as many truckstops based upon towing range reports coming back from those with EV pickups.
Ok….so a gigantic fossil fueled diesel generator creating electricity to trim train wheels
I don’t remember, actually, from the time I used to talk to the guys filling the tanks. It was either 1000 or 2000 gallons per tank. 2 tanks for each locomotive on a 2 or 3 locomotive train.
So, in reality, the whole EV thing relies on fossil fuels, obviously.
Anything else about them is noise
I used to work for a class 1 freight railroad.
Everything about EVs is dependent on fossil fuel.
Locomotives take 1000s of gallons of diesel. The whole argument is moot
The Tesla semi fleet is hauling potato chips for Frito Lay.
Next comes packing peanuts and helium balloons....
>The whole argument is moot
Indeed.

Pulverized coal is what is used in steam power plants. There were pulverized coal fired boilers in locomotives.
There is a 1911 patent 3,021 797 using pulverized coal for locomotives but that is using a turbine/electric with the hot gasses from the pulverized coal running a turbine.
1930-1944 Germany had extensive development of locomotives using dry pulverized coal in diesels.
!983 US Dept of Energy discussed using a slurry of pulverized coal in diesel locomotives.
Drivers are required to take a break after 8 hours. If you can get 500 miles to coincide with the break you could charge then. I do not know the recharge time.
Seems most of the orders for the Tesla truck are from companies that utilize a lot of short haul, Pepsi being one. They would probably be cost effective for someone like that.
When is NASCAR going to go electric???
Maybe shoveling it could help pas kidney stones. Then there are Vaseline eaters.
“When is NASCAR going to go electric???”
You will be able to hear more clearly what the crowd is chanting.
“””The Tesla semi fleet is hauling potato chips for Frito Lay.

You have come up with a very clever solution. LOL
It’s not hidden at all:

They’re generally estimating about 50 cents a mile.
