Ruh-roh-Raggy! Mindy Kaling's adult animated series Velma released on HBO Max Thursday and die-hard Scooby-Doo fans are not impressed.
According to the show's tagline, it is meant to be 'the origin story of Velma Dinkley (Kaling), the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang' that 'unmasks [her] complex and colorful past.'

I never liked “Scooby-Doo”. Thought it was gay and stupid.
Kaling was awesome as a member of the cast of the TV comedy āThe Officeā. She was part of what made that show so good.
Now hereās the interesting thing. On that show Kaling played the role of a shallow, self-absorbed woman - it was the opposite of a modern preachy āwokeā role.
So her latest effort has failed. I guess this is yet another example of the saying: Go woke, go broke.
Mindy Kaling is a disaster. Grating, annoying woman. Sheās the desi version of Lena Dunham.
So in other words, attack a historical kidās show that shows bad guys as bad and good guys as good.
Take one of the good characters and cast doubt to confuse children.
Why is Kaling (who by her own words does not want to marry and NEVER wants to bear children or be a mother) interested in childrenās shows?
If she wants to rewrite a good character into having a checkered or doubtful past, why didnāt she choose..Helen Crump from Andy Griffith show and rewrite her character??

To the left, the series and the character are a vehicle for their socio-political messaging.
This is plainly just how they think, and it’s a BIG difference between how the left operates, and the rest of society. They are the hammer, and to them, everything they see is a nail to be pounded. All institutions should be converted from the inside-out, and from the top down. Every agency with power, and every organization that has money and influence, they are all targets. Any cultural influence that does not fit the woke paradigm must be bastardized.
Near the end of this Japanese show about a broken toilet seat, that stars 2 American guys kinda like Jay and Silent Bob with out the drugs, is a parody of Scooby Doo. I thought it was pretty darn funny. All in Japanese and subtitled. Starts a bit slow.

Who is surprised by any of this? Pushing woke “entertainment” isn’t working out for Hollywood. The only way they learn is by losing money — but they will learn.

it probably didn’t help that they took the characters from the old shows and diversified them into something other than what they were.
Makes about as much sense to do that as it did to change the klingons in star trek. But somewhere along the line, i did see that star trek gave a reason for the klingons change in appearance. Not sure how you do that in creative works without sci-fi tech or fantasy magic.
How about Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched. Make her part of a secret FBI team investigating witchcraft or even acting as an agent provocateur of illegal spell casting.

These same people would have a fit over a remake of Fat Albert with white kids.
