The father of a 25-year-old who died suddenly in her sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition has begun a bid to row across the Atlantic.

Andrew Osborne, from Rutland, started his solo row of more than 3,000 miles (4,828km) on Sunday in Gran Canaria.

His 90-day row is aiming to support a charity that helped his family after his daughter Amy died in 2018.

Mr Osborne is seeking to raise £100,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to provide free heart scans for under 35s.

I story that assures everyone that young people died from ‘suddenly’ before Covid vaccines. I wonder what drew the BBC’s interest?

A fool rowing across the North Atlantic in winter. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Good luck with that.

The Atlantic Ocean gets some wicked storms, especially during winter months, he’s a fool to attempt it in such a small vessel.

The Gulf Stream up and over. There might be a window of opportunity here. Coastal wx has been okay. The last two Decembers had cold shots then a temporate period through to spring.

I will have to keep an eye on this challenger.

Psychiatrists would classify this as suicide brought on by unrelenting grief. And I’d be inclined to agree.

Normal citizens would classify this as the actions of a moron who will soon turn around. Or simply sink.

Is it safe to assume that his boat is built so he can be completely enclosed in the front so he can bob around like a cork during storms??? Hope so.

Foolish? Perhaps.Moron? I don’t think so. My sister lost her daughter at 18 and has never gotten over it.She’s never been the same.

Not so crazy... It has been done successfully in a barrel before. Never under estimate old farts... From May 2019:

“French pensioner who set off to float across the Atlantic in a 10ft-long barrel finally arrives at his Caribbean destination after 128 days at sea... and tucks in to some Swiss cheese to celebrate”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7005135/French-pensioner-floated-Atlantic-barrel-arrives-Caribbean-130-days.html

There is a thread on here on FR where we followed him by GPS as he made his float across. It was actually pretty cool...

I don’t like people who use someone’s death for attention... He could very easily do it for charity without mentioning his lost child. I for one don’t get guilted into reaching into my pocket...

Just speculating! That's a lot of unprotected sun exposure during the months when the sun's rays are strongest (May/June/July).

I've had many skin cancers so I'm always aware of it.
