Police in riot gear began evicting climate activists Wednesday from a condemned village in western Germany that is due to be demolished for the expansion of a coal mine.
Some stones and fireworks were thrown as officers entered the tiny hamlet of Luetzerath, which has become a flashpoint of debate over the country’s climate efforts, on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesman Andreas Mueller said the attacks on officers were “not nice” but noted that most of the protest so far had been peaceful.
He said police would stick to their tactic of trying to avoid any escalation by offering to let any activists who leave on their own accord to do so without facing further police measures or prosecution. […]
Environmentalists say bulldozing the village to expand the nearby Garzweiler coal mine would result in huge amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. The government and utility company RWE argue the coal is needed to ensure Germany’s energy security.

FTA “”Police escalation not justified by the peaceful protest.””
So, as long as you “peacefully” occupy a space, you can block the collection of material used to make electricity to keep the citizenry warm. And in winter, not just warm, but alive. Imagine going to a protestors home and ‘occupying’ the electric outlet in the wall; in essence, blocking access to power and warmth. You could even disconnect the heater from the home, pitch a tent, and ‘occupy’ the heater. The mentality that you are ‘saving the planet’ empowers you to cause harm and death to others. More proof that liberalism really is a mental disorder.
PS The word Occupy reminds me of a few hilarious incidents during the Occupy Wall Street time. Some liberal students at several Kalifornia Universities decided to join the protestors. The college students had very nice tents, sleeping bags, gloves, etc. If they didn’t already have these high-end camping gear, mommy and daddy no doubt bought some. What became so hilarious was the students even brought their high-end laptops, smartphones, and other gadgets. Some nights, as they went off to protest, they left their expensive gadgets in their tents, never believing anyone would violate them. So, not only did others take their expensive tech gear, some homeless and others took the expensive tents and sleeping bags also. Oh, the humanity!
