I grew up flying out of cow pastures and hayfields with my dad; tree lines, power lines, up hill, down hill, side hill.

He hit cow with a cessna 310K on a night landing rollout. Grass strip in a harvested cornfield. Fortunately, he was almost stopped. One blade on the right prop was slightly bent. Prop shop had him back in business two days later.

His best brood cow lost her tail, but worse had a back leg tendon cut. She became hamburger for us.

We didn’t have cows in the cane fields but one wing was out over the canal and tall trees at the end near the road.

I was flying in a club out of Lakefront but the drive was awful.

A one-plane club opening came up about two miles from my house. I tooke the check ride and the pilot told me to:

1. Do not put it into the adjacent canal used by the seaplanes

2. Say under the NAS controlled airspace on takeoff.

I reserved the plane for a flight the next week. Three days later I was informed the plane was not available. Someone had violated #1.

It has been about 30 years or so since my dad bought a used plane. After the purchase he found out the battery was a farm tractor battery not rated for aircraft.
