I stupidly said yes to downloading windows 11. It has downloaded but not yet installed. I want to uninstall/delete it preferably before it installs itself. I am computer illiterate and need some handholding. I know my fellow Freepers are all knowing and can help me
...kind of... :-)

Linux is the way to go. It has reached the point that it is as user friendly as Windows and can run most Windows software if needed (sometimes better than Windows itself).
Your understanding is wrong. In some cases it's as simple as configuring a "metered connection" (depends on the Win10 build#). You can install a 3rd-party firewall (and disable the native firewall) and block all the MS update sites (complete URL lists are available online). Or you can roll up your sleeves and hack the registry. Or teach Win10 Home how to do GPOs, and block updates through GPO.
Apologies to the OP if this sounds harsh but cases like this illustrate why your need to keep regular backups of all your personal files increases in direct proportion to how much it would hurt to lose them all.
Back-ups are to PCs what a helmet is to a motorcycle. You might never need it, and riding bare-headed might feel cool, but it's too late to cry about it once your brains are splattered all over the street.
Windows question: My brother is addicted to the computer game “Tiberian Sun” that will not run on Windows 10. I was trying to install Windows 7 on a newer computer with a brand new hard drive and the program would not install.
Is there something that stops that install, or is in in the bios?
The computer originally had Windows 8, then 10. Dell.
If I'm using Win10, I would *never* stop the security updates for the version I have chosen to stay at. I think what you are suggesting is bad advice for most all Windows users.
I would look at the specs for the game - especially video adapter requirements.
