**She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy- Kenny Chesney**

I farmed until 2001, at age 47, and when I heard that song I thought, “nothing like another country song that makes us rural folk sound like a bunch of low IQ hayseeds.”

JD has been doing this stuff for years. For instance, they could use a standard industry bearing that you could buy from the local bearing store but instead they spec one that’s the size of a dinner plate 1mm larger just so you have to go to the JD store and buy it from them.

There’s a reason they paint them green.

Wheel Horse was truly a gem (and made here in Indiana) but they went out of business after getting bought out by Toro. I think they were too robust and didn't get replaced / plus not much replacement parts profit.

Push mower (14SB green deck), grandpappy ‘sold’ it to me on the basis I cut his lawn for free in perpetuity, man it was a beast but made me enough for the first car.

They would have to prove the non-Deere part was defective to deny warranty claims or service.

They will still deny it and force you to go to court yet again. Sort of like New York manages to avoid obeying Supreme Court decisions that tell them they can't forbid guns or CC permits in New York.

Sell the initial product, then have the customer continue buying stuff to keep it working.

Computer software is nearly impossible to buy at least the high dollar stuff, you now subscribe to the service with an annual fee, same for almost all of the home security systems.

Cable TV service is now morphing into internet service as I predicted fifteen years ago.

The courts have already slapped their hands on this monopoly mindset and can’t risk another loss because the judgement may be punitive for repeated bad behavior.

He got smart and installed a camera pointed at one of the machines he was getting ready to have maintenance done on and got the code.

Very smart. Many companies still don't understand how dangerous those copiers can be. They have hard drives in them that store just about everything you copy. Most also have servers built in as well. I'd definitely run portscans against any copier to see if there are any listeners, and would block any attempt to go to anything but a RFC-1918 address.

(My Comment) : This is a mutual agreement to repair John Deere factory equipment through 'independent repairmen' rather than previously mandated Deere service centers. It does not establish a legal precedent, but rather, is a private understanding covering the 'need to repair'. Given the frequent breakdown of supply chain issues, this memorandum of agreement should increase the ease of repair during stressful agricultural seasons where repair centers have gotten overloaded with work and replacement parts may be unavailable. This is a common sense response by both suppliers and consumers and should aid in keeping agricultural costs lower.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. Was wondering if it was a legal decision, or something negotiated. Sounds like the latter. If it was a legal decision, it would have been an interesting read.
