As unhappy as many FReepers are with McCarthy (I find his positions from wearing a Ukraine flag pin to supporting the draft of women appalling) the problem for me was, there was no apparent alternative. No one ran against him. I can’t see what to do in this case. The holdouts that got major concessions (hopefully they will be enacted formally Monday!) were admirable in using what leverage they had.
I wanted Scalise. He didn’t run.

I am as happy about this as I was about his endorsement of mail in ballots.
Trump supporting McCarthy did two things. It defanged the conservative rebellion against McCarthy, for good or bad. It didn’t have his blessing.
And the fact that a number of hard-core supporters rebelled against McCarthy anyway shows that Trump’s people are not robots.
McCarthy is a politician, in both the good and the bad sense of the word. We have done worse. He isn’t Paul Ryan. He isn’t John Boehner.
They weren't MAGA Leaders if they ignored Trump.
Trump should start thinking up a new name for McCarthy now so he can use it before the year is out
Trump and radio host Wayne Allyn Root need to co-author a book and call it, “How Not To Blow Your Own Horn”.
Trump is an oppurtunist who takes credit for anything that appears good and runs from any culpability for anything that appears bad.
Please retire and not run in 2024.
McCarthy thinks he, himself was responsible for the slim Republican majority in the House. He’ll take credit for anything he can.
Not something I’d want to brag about.
Trump has no need to “seek credit” - McCarthy openly credited him.
Those former MAGA leaders were never MAGA!
