There wasn’t anyone else on the GOP who was a credible competitor. The 20 holdouts openly admitted this when they voted for Jim Jordan — who didn’t want the job and supported McCarthy — instead of McCarthy.

That did appear to be the final bottom line. You may have noticed, I've been saying for the last couple of months it would be McCarthy, the only question was going to be whether he ceded power to the holdout conservatives, or to the Democrats, to get the final votes he needed.
Thankfully, he chose correctly. Although just words, I thought McCarthy's acceptance speech, and subsequent interviews, were very good. He even had positive things to say about Gaetz.
If the vote for rules gets passed on Monday, which I believe it will, as they all know that McCarthy will be mortally wounded as the new leader if he can't deliver what he just promised, then this will be a huge win for conservatives, and huge loss for those in favor of big government.
Well done to all. But don't let your guard down.
