5. You don’t do things just because you were told to. Independent thinking means thinking for yourself rather than mindlessly obey orders. That’s why a person who thinks independently is highly unlikely to choose a military or public service career.

I am calling BS on this one to or at least this part on the military. Yeah there's a lot of following orders, but there's also a lot of times in combat and such where you have to rely on your "gut" and you ability to critically evaluate the situation.

I’m no card player but I try my hand at chess against the Windows 7 game that I rarely win against sometimes.

The W7 one is the version I like best out of the ones I tried.

Critical thinking has been destroyed, long before covid. It used to be taught in some classical schools, but no more.

This one scares me the most, “1. You think critically”

I’ve been an engineer for the past 33 years and the ability to apply the process of critical thinking has been a major part of my career. Over the past 10 years or so I have witnessed the ability to apply critical thinking diminish to the point that my employer actually has “classes” to teach critical thinking.

Everytime I see someone grab their phone and look something up and then spout the found answer as authoritative, I know they are USELESS to me and whatever project they are working on.

Without Critical Thinking people are becoming mindless drones. Just personal opinion.

...and you don’t let the Neocons tell you what to think on Ukraine - you do your own research.

One of the most important discourses in the original teachings of Buddhism (before it was made into just another religion) explains that the only truth that is “true” for you is what you have actually experienced. Just because someone you admire tells you something is true, or you read a “truth” in a revered book, these are not “truths” for you. Buddha was referring to the actual experience of liberation from suffering, but the lesson applies to any belief that you haven’t demonstrated to yourself through your own efforts. You may agree with something as a matter of opinion but it should always be tempered with the awareness that this is not “your truth” but someone else’s that may be false.

11. You always double-check the information

Does that mean one has to read the full article posted on FR before one can post a comment? If so, I ain’t playin’.
= = =

No, it means you double click your post (reading not necessary).

Me, too. Mom said the first thing I did when my father saw me was stick out my tongue at him. That never changed - LOL!

I think it's clear that there is military service where everyone is needed (a draft for national defense reasons, for example) and there is military service as a career which may involve military action of questionable moral legitimacy (the occasional assault on a weaker state).

There aren't many critical thinkers who would have any interest in the latter.

The left has adopted the worst combination of hyper individualism and herd mentality. They are hyper-individualist when it comes to sexual identities and gender roles, but utterly craven sheeple in matters of political philosophy and government obedience.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the author has never been a member of any military organization, nor does she know anyone who has.

You don’t identify with any particular political or religious views An independent thinker is unlikely to be blindly loyal to a political party or a religious organization. Typically, they won’t identify with any particular views. This is because they don’t like squeezing their perceptions into the box of established interpretations

Actually I don’t have a problem with #4 as there is a difference between blind loyalty to a religion, and eyes wide open, sold out commitment to Jesus Christ.
