I haven’t seen it in the news yet, but given the way egg prices are going, I expect another run on day-old chicks this spring.

And the quail-raising and meat rabbit discussion groups I’m on are both getting a steady stream of new members, trying to find a way around high meat prices.

I found out that my 6 yo great-niece is hatching baby chicks as a “project”! They have a bunch of laying hens - haven’t seen the rooster, but I’ve heard him on videos. In the hospital, dad started talking about “baby chicks” & said he wanted some. Hmmm ... if he & I gang up on mom, I might end up with some hens yet!

I talked to Beau and he agrees; we need chickens!

So, he’s working on plans for their coop, storage for my mower and upgrades to the dog kennels, all in the same area he stole from me a few years back.

Excited! :)

Eggs, that SHOULD be 99-cents were $4.99 a dozen at Kwik Trip this week! Ugh! Milk was $2.99, so I grabbed a gallon. Butter was $3.99, so forget that, but it is still cheaper than even Walmart. Sad to think I may need to go to Costco for The Basics. Grrrrr!
