The ProCut series of Sunflowers is great! Little pollen, long lasting in a vase.

‘Fireball’ has been my favorite Marigold for a few years now. It’s so BRIGHT and makes a nice, neat 12” or so mound. Love it!

That’s the one we have, too. A workhorse!

I tried Fireball 3 years ago. Had never heard of it before that. It is amazing.

Typical January weather here in Central Missouri this past week. We got some rain then we got some snow then we got some ice pellets then it warmed up then it got cold again yada yada. lol

The contractor that’s plowing in conduit along the roadside for fiber internet bored through the telephone main cable Thursday afternoon. Half the houses on my road have been without service since. Might get fixed today if we’re lucky.

I didn’t do anything in the garden aside from watering in the greenhouse. It was too cold and windy to fiddle with getting the plastic up on the tunnel house. Half of Saturday was eaten up by hauling Mrs. Augie’s golf cart to the golf cart doctor in Clinton, MO for an engine overhaul.

The rest of the weekend I mostly spent in the shop working on Mr. Clarence. Got the transmission, hydraulics reservoir, and rear end filled up with new oil. I expect to have him back together enough by the end of the week that I can drive him around and try to get all the air bled from the hydraulics system.

Anyone here near Goshen, Indiana? There’s a seed swap there Jan 21st.

One of the people offering seeds is going to be John Sherk, who is famous in plant-breeding and plant-preservation circles for his work with heirloom grains. He no longer sells seeds online directly, so this swap is one of the few places to get some of his varieties.

Get your Spring chicks early. With egg prices the way they are, day old chicks will probably go fast.

Planning on it. If the ‘Palais du Poulet’ isn’t ready by THIS spring, at least I have him moving in the right direction!

It’s getting some of the barn cleaned out which is always a bonus in my book. :)

I still have my one survivalist hen. Kinda broody but not enough I don’t think. Still a sign of mother instincts so I think “m going to get some day old chicks this Spring. I’ll introduce them slowly, start out separated physically but not visually.

Interesting.

https://www.harrisseeds.com/collections/jiffy-peat-pellets

Jiffy Pellet Sheets fit into 1020 trays/flats.

50mm - 32 pellets/sht - 3 sheets for $41 (42 cents per pellet)
42mm - 50 pellets/sht - 3 sheets for $30 (20 cents per pellet)
36mm - 72 pellets/sht - 3 sheets for $27 (12 cents per pellet)
30mm - 105 pellets/sht - 3 sheets for $27 (8 cents per pellet)

If my math is right.

Lot faster than messing with potting soil. Wouldn't have to buy cell trays.

I love Jiffy Pellets. I haven’t bought expensive seed starting mix in for-ever. :) Once the seedling has two sets of true leaves, they get re-potted with whatever potting mix I have on hand, usually MiracleGrow.

And we’re off to the races!

Check the prices at Jung’s, too. They sell those as well and will ship.
