The WORST Political Upheaval EVER
Market-Ticker ^ | 7 Jan, 2023 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 01/07/2023 4:50:59 AM PST by MtnClimber

Is it really the worst political environment ever in the history of the United States -- or even the worst "in the modern era" (let's define that as "1900+")?

Not even close.

On January 2nd, 1920, thousands of Americans -- by some measures ten thousand Americans -- were detained and many arrested in the so-called "Palmer Raids" nationwide.

Woodrow Wilson's AG orchestrated those raids against purported communists and anarchists, along with anyone they believed supported either. My writing here on these pages over the last 15 years would have certainly landed me on that list -- and behind bars. This was not local to the US either; it spread rapidly all through Europe as well. It was, in no small part, fueled by the 1918/19 pandemic flu which killed a half-million Americans, and was particularly nasty in mortality when it came to children and young, working-age adults, which of course stoked plenty of underlying fear. News media applauded the raids, claiming that civil liberties were "secondary" to the fundamental needs of the nation.

May I note that J Edgar Hoover, who put this all together, is still lionized in that the FBI building in DC bears his name.

Incidentally some of the motivation for Palmer was likely political; he was in the early stages of a bid for the White House when the raids were launched. However, that didn't work out so well in that he lost the nomination seven months later, and his tyranny ran out of fuel shortly thereafter.

Did America collapse? No. Was anyone held personally responsible and hanged for what they did to people? Not one. Political careers were destroyed but that hardly made whole those who were screwed, and thousands of families were economically and personally destroyed.

Was it an ugly, black spot on our history? You bet.

I point this out because of its temporal proximity to the "live" date on this Ticker, but also as a cautionary note: Political winds shift, and often in unexpected and even violent ways. However to ascribe what's going on now and has for the last three years to be "end times" is probably foolish.

The polarization caused by the last three years didn't come from a virus: It came from what so-called "leaders" did when the virus showed up and we, the people in this nation let them do every bit of it....

The regime isn’t even done with January 6th arrests yet.

The dems will be milking the Jan. 6th thing until all the truth comes out. Then, it will abruptly vanish into thin air.

The problem in the country at the moment is that a large percentage of the people (perhaps 30% or even much higher) are thoroughly indoctrinated with a perverted way of thinking that is virtually insane (the Woke). And one of our two political parties is aligned with or part of that insane segment of the population.

To find such insanity in a population, we almost have to go back to Rome before its collapse.

The Wilson regime and the Palmer raids set us on the path we find ourselves.

The FBI got where it is, because Hoover and the FBI were never held responsible for their misdeeds.

There was legitimate concern after the Bolsheviks took over in Russia in 1918, murdered the tsar and his children, killed millions of priests, opposition soldiers and other opponents and pledged to take their terrorism worldwide. There were a series of bombings in the US, including an unsolved one on Wall Street that killed 30 in 1920. The vast number of the American people wanted nothing to do with international Bolshevism and its murderous heart, hence the Palmer Raids.

This took place in 1920? J.Edgar Hoover didn’t runt the FBI until 1924. It may be clumsy writing but he never ran for president either.

As far as I’m concerned, we are watching, more than ever, Atlas Shrugged happen before our very eyes. I’ve taken appropriate action.

Things like this never have an exactly the way they did in fictional books, but the effect is very similar. In fact, dare I say it, the looters are using tools that Ayn Rand never imagined.

Hoover was in charge of the General Intelligence Division of the Justice Department’s Bureau of Investigation in 1920, the forerunner of the FBI. As such, he was involved in the investigation of the as yet unsolved Wall Street bombing of 1920, which killed 40.

"The FBI got where it is, because Hoover and the FBI were never held responsible for their misdeeds."

I fully agree.. But unfortunately what the DC lawyers are most likely to do is rename the cesspool and put the same political hacks back in it...

The biggest crooks in DC are the ones running the place..

Right. Not worse than the 20s. Except for 2 million foreign criminals coming into the country, $30 trillion in debt, fags in control of government who steal luggage. Come on!

Wilson is responsible for presiding during the income tax, the Federal Reserve, prohibition, and letting women vote.

Worst ever.

The emotionally driven aspects of humanity are the enemy of reason. Reality, however, is inescapable. Although it always takes time, a productive majority will eventually realize their welfare is endangered by progressive tampering with the laws of human nature.

People who can think clearly will eventually tire of working their a$$es off to finance socialist insanity. But nobody said it wasn't gonna be semi-tough.

I tend to agree. Hyperbole from both sides is annoying. America won’t fall quickly, but bet your behind that it will fall. The path we are on is simply unsustainable financially and morally.
