Unless I am mistaken, this doesn't address who gets the bye-week.

AFC Championship game on neutral ground? What does this fix?

A good opportunity for a class action lawsuit by season ticket holders of teams potentially impacted by a change in motivation for some final matchups of the season.

What it fixes is not having to bring up and discuss what happened in the canceled game.

~~~
It’s stupid. Sorry if I don’t put on my floofy politically-correct, sensitivity hat, but they are doing it in case cincinanti ends up hosting the bills in that game, and playing there again could be traumatic or something.
They’re going to have to play the game again. People are going to have to go back there. It’s inevitable. Too soon?
All that praise they were heaping on Cincinnati for responding so quickly to save Hamlin’s life, but now they want to take a playoff home game away from them as a wonderous reward. heh
The main challenge from not playing that game is that Buffalo and KC were vying for a bye and home field advantage. Also cincinnati could have clinched their division. Without playing that game the outcome is different. This plan addresses the home field challenge but not the bye. I am not sure which is most valuable. The rest week is huge but the home crowd is a big advantage too.
In my opinion they should either bump the superbowl a week or delay the playoff and remove the week off before the superbowl. This only if the divisions and seeding are in dispute. If Cincinnati beats Baltimore this week they win the division regardless. Then, if the top spot is settled despite the missing game, proceed with the original playoff schedule. Otherwise, Cincinnati and Buffalo should replay or finish the cancelled game in a week.
Well, Cleveland is about halfway between Cinci and Buffalo.
It *could* be considered as a neutral field.
And would be a super fun drive during the next lake effect snow band, for both teams ...
It's the Bills who could get screwed on this. They controlled their own destiny. If they had beat Cincinnati and win against the Patriots this Sunday then they would be the top seed.
Now that won't happen unless Kansas City looses.
Yes, and home field advantage is a big deal in the AFC/NFC Championship games. 70% are won by the home team.
It is also a big deal for a team like the Patriots, Packers, Bills, Bears to host a team from a warm climate or one accustomed to playing inside a dome.
It is more than just crowd noise or as they call it in Seattle the 12th man.
Goodell Sucks
Seems ridiculously complicated when you could just delay the playoffs by one week.
The “neutral” site they were speaking about last night on The Sports Hub(Boston) was Indianapolis.
Dome stadium, equal distance between KC & Buffalo.
That is assuming the Bills & Chiefs end up in the AFC Championship.
Why should KC suffer not getting a home AFC Championship game, if they make it because the NFL can't figure this out correctly?
Buffalo and Cincinnati should complete their game at sometime and the week off between Championship Sunday and the Superbowl should be eliminated.
We’ll never be told the truth because it will never be fully investigated, hush money will be paid and Goodell is a liar.
Are all of the venues available with a one-week delay? How about fans who purchased non-refundable airfare to get to the super bowl? Will the airlines rearrange their schedules for them?
A one-week delay is not a simple proposition at this point in the season.
I just checked. It is almost the exact same drive from KC to Indy as it is from Buffalo to Indy. I would have thought Buffalo was further.
Just eliminate the 2 week break between the AFC/NFC championship game and the Super Bowl. Play all the games this weekend. Play the Bills/Bengals game next weekend. Wildcard weekend after that, etc.
Play the Pro Bowl the week AFTER the SB like it used to be. Maybe more players would play in the Pro Bowl then, and more people would actually watch it.
Apparently, Indy is centrally located for the majority of population in the USA. Excluding Alaska & HI.
That is why they have had the Final Four there and at least one Super Bowl. They also host the largest one day sporting event in the country. The Indy 500(400K).
