Holy cow.
Pinging Nick.
We used to take the kids to Capitola many times and walked all around town. The video of Soquel Creek below the Stockton Ave Bridge is amazing. I’ve only seen creek be fairly small, nothing like that flood stage.
Capitola is a beautiful seaside village. We go there often and stop at Zelda’s for their great seafood. It’s right on the beach, I’m sure it sustained a lot of damage as did the other restaurants along the road. Sad. Feel sorry for the owners.
Happens every decade or two.
I remember back in the 80’s the was a one lane bridge over a stream on a country road off highway 9 due to being washed out in a huge rainstorm.
It’s going to take a lot of bums to replace the feces on the sidewalks. This is truly a tragedy.
Shade shades of 1982-83 Winter. Lots of damage then. Best wishes to our Northern California FReepers. Stay safe out there.
West coast winter storms. Seen a few.
Beach-entry diving at the end of Ribera Rd in Carmel would be a definite no-go.
Winter steelhead fishing on the rivers would be out as well.
Worked at Sugar Bowl in the early 80’s for a few years.
The Tahoe area snowstorm end of March,’82 was epic.
“It’s going to take a lot of bums to replace the feces on the sidewalks. This is truly a tragedy.”
That is a pretty ignorant statement. Capitola is a beautiful city and where lots of locals go there to eat. I have been there many times and I don’t see any homeless there. It has always been clean and the hospitality is awesome.
Please don’t stereotype Northern California by what goes on in the city. (SF)
That one was way worse. 12 inches in 12 hrs.
My car spent a couple days on OSJR.
I remember. That sucked rocks.
Capitola does not equal Santa Cruz. Down by the main drag stop was filthy last time I visited.
Which main drag was flithy?
I was stationed in the area in the days of “Anubus Warpus.” But since you asked, Ocean and Chestnut were disgusting. I was assigned Monterrey and then got a nice gig north at one station at Soquel. I went back to visit right before the kung flu. Downtown SC was absolutely disgusting. And again I say. Capitola does not equal Santa Cruz.
Not giving up too much personal info but I am very familiar with lighthouses, firefighting, and rescue.
