I really miss Radio Shack.

I always remember the day I bought my DX-160 with the money I saved from my paper route at Radio Shack.

The company said it expects a net loss of $385.8 million in its fiscal third quarter.

you and me both did that.

I didn’t get as much as I wanted, but always could get Time and radio America, as well as a bunch of foreign stations.

I read every page of every radio shack catalog many many times back then.

I got mine for a high school Graduation gift in the late 70s. Was listening to the BBC in August 1990 when the Iraqis invaded Kuwait. No news stations picked up on it until morning.

Wish I still had it. But, after 30 years of use, it finally died.

Stopped going to Bed Bath and Beyond when they stopped selling My Pillow.

Stopped going to Target several years ago when they started to let men in the women’s dressing room.

I listened to Radio Beijing when the announcer when the Tianamen Square crackdown started, and even said that several Radio Beijing employees were killed in the crackdown, he was quickly replaced.

I got my rich pal, whom I sometimes give stock tips to, to buy that stock for $16 and sell it about 4 days later for $27. It is usually very hard to get him to sell something, he hates paying short-term taxes, but I told him BBBY could go bankrupt at any minute. He made a nice pile of dough on that trade.

RE: no parts places or even TV repair now....

Notice the PC young people (now many in their late 40s) went crazy over saving the planet and avoiding climate change. Don’t ask for water glass at a restaurant, re-use plastic shopping bags, no plastic straws, don’t put long plastic cases on cds, force catalytic converters for all cars).

But they quickly accepted tossing out all devices that wore out for even just were the old model. No changing of parts or repairing radios, tape players, TVs or computers. Everything quickly tossed onto the garbage heaps.

The United States is bankrupt but can print fiat fake currency to pay bills as they come due.

We have a pretty good one around the corner. The problem is I have never seen more than two other customers every time I go.

I remember when Mad Magazine described the concept of Planned Obsolescence to me.

I could not believe people would be so evil as to actually do that.

I sold my 1960s Jacobsen mannor 21 lawnmower in around 2010, yea I had to fix it and do stuff over the years, but I bet it is still running for its new owner

Not still true but maybe in the 1990s an article said all of us had parents who still had the old reserve refrigerators and other appliances in their basements that still worked fine but were many years old now and used for reserve but the grown children could of course use them again as their new model ones broke down, once again, each one lasting a few short years.

Childhood memory of that was my grandmother’s old toaster. Our modern one broke and hers in the attic was fine as always. It actually had a manually opened door on the left and right which you had to pull down to get the finished toast each time. Before popup ones. Amazed me as a kid. The toast was perfect.

Hey, I read the history books and watch the show Decades.
I’m a young 76 myself.😁

Not for me, but I think their problems go beyond Mike Lindell, though that may have been the final straw for many of their customers.

Every time I have been inside one of their stores in the last several years (admittedly not many) it has been an unpleasant experience.

About 10 or so years ago, I used to shop there for goods when my kids were going away to college. I guess it’s actually closer to twenty years (crap, I’m getting old!).

Anyway, IMHO, they have gone downhill ever since. They are overpriced. Their competition has beat them, and they couldn’t keep up with the times. When they dropped Mike Lindell, they got rid of the last of their faithful customers.

What they’ve been doing lately isn’t enough. I feel bad for the people who are holding the bag for them.

Not at all a surprise. Their stores are a chaotic mess, dirty and disorganized, the staff generally knows nothing about the products and is a little on the stressed and hostile side, and they really don’t have a very good range of products.

I last went to a BB&B during the aughts. No complaints about the store, the staff, or the quality of its products.

But driving anywhere in L.A. is a hassle. So much easier to buy things online. So I usually go to Amazon for my bathroom needs.

I miss Fry’s, too. The first one I went to was the store in Vegas: it had a giant, operating slot machine for the outside sign. I went back to Vegas a few times after that, always visited Fry’s, even if it was just to browse.

Microcenter was what got me interested in building my own PCs. I’d read online sites about how to do/build something, then go to Microcenter to get cheap parts.
