I remember when Mad Magazine described the concept of Planned Obsolescence to me.
I could not believe people would be so evil as to actually do that.
I sold my 1960s Jacobsen mannor 21 lawnmower in around 2010, yea I had to fix it and do stuff over the years, but I bet it is still running for its new owner
Not still true but maybe in the 1990s an article said all of us had parents who still had the old reserve refrigerators and other appliances in their basements that still worked fine but were many years old now and used for reserve but the grown children could of course use them again as their new model ones broke down, once again, each one lasting a few short years.
Childhood memory of that was my grandmother’s old toaster. Our modern one broke and hers in the attic was fine as always. It actually had a manually opened door on the left and right which you had to pull down to get the finished toast each time. Before popup ones. Amazed me as a kid. The toast was perfect.
