he day ended up surprising everyone when state Rep. Jim Gregory (R) of Blair County nominated state Rep. Mark Rozzi (D) of Berks County to be the speaker. The move was seconded by another Republican, Tim O’Neal of Washington County, who said, “We need an independent voice and an independent mind." State House Majority Leader Joanna McClinton (D) agreed to support him, and within short order, Rozzi was elected speaker of the Pennsylvania state House.
Rozzi then proceeded to flip from Democrat to independent in his acceptance speech. “I am sure a lot of you didn’t see this coming today,” he said, then began discussing the importance of the independent voter in American politics owing to their putting “their fellow man first,” he said.
Rozzi then dropped the bomb no one saw coming that he was no longer going to be a Democrat, adding that he would not caucus with either party and would have staff from both parties.

Yeah. Sure. Independent.
Pennsylvania! America’s political basket case.
Just like Bernie!
It don’t make no difference ,LOL
Like all “independents” who are elected, they still vote DemocRat.
Well, sounds good anyway.
I’m a Berks Co, Pennsylvania resident but not to familiar with this guy.
Seeing him turn to independent w/o his party knowing makes me say, “give this guy a shot”.
We’ll all be watching!
Joe Lieberman comes to mind
RINOcrapsylvania!
An independent is just another word for Democrat.
Every “Independent” I’ve ever met has always essentially been left of center. I know how they’ll vote 99% of the time.
I have come to not trust any of them. But I guess this is better than the house being run 100% by Democrats....but who knows. The republicans always screw up everything that could benefit us.
Wasn’t Ross Perot Liberaltarian?
Not sure.
Hi.
How does one “un’Rat” themselves?
Does the person read and absorb many conservative writers and thoughts in a short period of time?
Does the person school themselves in logic, economics, math and American history quickly?
Methinks a zebra can’t change it’s stripes overnight.

4-5 years ago there was a PA state senator that flipped to (I)——He eventually went R and voted very conservatively.
But I agree, I think it will still “suck” but suck slightly less....
Ask Ronald Reagan, Dr. Ben Carson, Donald J. Trump and millions of others.
Paying attention to taxes might push one toward the pubbies or toward Independent.
It is one thing to appreciate the result, however it does seem like misrepresentation.
Mark Rozzi has a 80% lifetime leftist rating from the ACU. 86% leftist in 2021 (2022 not rated yet). Then again, if a Demonrat doesn’t have a 110% perfect Stalinist rating, they’re considered an “Ultra-Right Conservative.”
