Damon the Demon, changing name to Ilene.
All my SIG SAUER hand guns have no manual safety. None go off by themselves without pulling the trigger. The best guidance is don’t put your finger on the trigger until one acquires a target.
Really?

Accidental discharge is not a real concern if you’re wearing the proper holster. What a carrier needs to train for is to extract the gun without putting a finger on the trigger.
The only bad part to this tale is that he’s not laying in a morgue covered with a sheet
I is so easy go off on a tangent.
The post to which I take exception was a suggestion that one do so with the safety off.
A pistol equipped with a safety has a safety for a reason. Most have much better triggers than the double action pistols, striker fired, etc.
Many pistols have triggers almost suitable for competition. I have a few with 2 lb and one 1.5 lb....all original.
But even a run of the mill 4 lb trigger requires a safety and the knowledge of of how to use it.
If one can’t get the safety off in the same motion that brings it into position, and with either hand, best to leave it at home.
Check
“..You must be acutely aware of your surroundings when you are just exiting your car and when you just get in your car....”
Good advice.
The wife and I do the same.
Depending on the specific location, who’s close by and other immediate surroundings; we even go so far as making sure that at least one of us has a hand on our weapon for an immediate draw if need be.
There have been a couple of instances that once in the vehicle, at least one weapon was in hand and in Condition 1. We obviously try to avoid those kinds of areas as much as possible, but still, it’s a shame that America has come to a 3rd world shitehole like this.
Looks like wide receiver material.
Hey Cur! Did you read the docs at your link? Has nothing to do with handguns—rifles and ammo, ONLY!!
You could weld the hammer shut and some fool would still do something to hurt himself.
I think the point should be that everything mechanical can malfunction.
There is nothing more basic than a bolt action rifle, except maybe a Ruger Blackhawk, yet look at the many (claimed) instances of Remington 700 misfires due to a faulty trigger design.
A sgt. and you don’t see the problem of safety off before or while exiting a vehicle, and in a busy public area? Or the difference in double action striker fired and a 1911, Browning HiPower, Bul Armory and the dozens of similar weapons?
No wonder rangemasters are so strict.
“King Ludd, I feel for you for having to exercise all these precautions just to get out of your car. I really do.”
Bad stuff can happen anywhere in any one of a thousand counties that have no crime or very little crime. That is no reason to not always be vigilant for your family’s safety. All it takes is one slip, one night that you forget the charlie bar or forget to turn on the security system. Do what you can, when you can. Best of luck.
I understand your passion for your vehicle, but you can’t shoot someone for stealing it, even right in front of your eyes. Not a life threatening situation. Car jacking is a different story.
I totally get it and it would be easy to shoot someone fully dead for stealing your stuff, but your life would be changed forever, and not for the better. Stuff can be replaced. Hope you never have to unholster in such a situation. Happy New Year.
(I can no longer unholster anything because of the tragic, freak boating accident)
I too have started locking my car immediately upon entering it after grocery shopping, etc. That’s the time when people are most distracted (especially women it seems). I’m looking at my list on my phone to see if there is something I’m forgetting, or if hubby has called wanting me to pick up something while I’m out. Or, I’m taking off my jacket and organizing some stuff I’ve placed on the passenger seat.
It is times like that when you make yourself most vulnerable to a carjacking.
No surprise.🤔
A Hellcat...
Worth a night in Jail to
Drive It as If I Stole It !!!
