“(Eeeeew.....now, I need mind’s eye bleach.)”
Yeah, me too, ick!!!
I would order some more things but most places seem to be out of stock. And I’m pretty much out of room.
I just bought both the dog and cat about 30 or 40 lb of food. The last time I bought Cooper a big bag I did a test. I put a lot in mylar with an oxygen absorber and some in food saver bags. Now I really have no idea if your food is fresh or what, I didn’t taste it. But Cooper finished all of it, starting with the FoodSaver bags and then ending with the mylar. It smelled the same, I figured if it had gone bad it would smell rancid. It was stored about 3-4 years.
Being a bit OCD Plus going over the top on most things, I did the same thing with chocolate. I just opened up some chocolate that was stored 5 years ago and Food Savers and mylar with oxygen absorber. These I did taste! LOL! The ones in mylar were fresh, the chocolate was creamy, the that’s in the Snickers were still crunchy, it was like I just bought it today. No rancidity or white on the chocolate. The ones in FoodSaver bags didn’t fare as well, the chocolate had a bit of a white haze. And it didn’t have that fresh taste, it was a bit grainy with the inside crumbly. So 5 years is too long for something in the plastic FoodSaver bags, which are oxygen permeable. I would only give those a couple years.
Thanks for this info....very good to know.
I also have some dry kibble stored both ways. I think it’s about 2 years old....going on, now.
I do know that roasts we’ve Food Saver sealed, and, put in the deep freeze....have lasted over 2 years.
We did the taste test, with those, obviously :) and, everything tasted just fine. No adverse effects.....and, it’s been a while.
I really need to go through the freezers and reorganize, all.
It’s amazing how long the meats and veggies have lasted, and, fared...over time.
I bought some Costco chocolate chips, and, have those in a mylar bags (w/02As)....so, that is also great to know, about the chocolate.
The hard part (for me) is keeping it all cycled, and, used.
