Just and update and a huge prayer request…
So, I just got back from visiting my sister who has the trach now. That surgery went okay. They tried to reduce the sedation but she was getting agitated and her BP and heart rate were going up. Today was the first day she was semi conscious but definitely still sedated.
When the nurse came in and did her range of motion for her arms and legs, the look on her face was excruciating pain. Her BP and heart rate skyrocketed.. I am sure it’s pain , because I spent the last year gauging my FIL’s level of pain by his facial expressions, heart rate and BP (because he couldn’t tell us).
My BIL thinks the frowning is that she is mad - I am sure it is because she is hurting. I saw it today. She opened her mouth and scrunched her eyes in a silent scream today. There is no doubt. I told her nurse she is in pain. I sent my BIL a text that I believe that until they get her pain under control, she is going to have continued issues coming off sedation. Please pray they will listen!

It is a tough decision, too much sedation and it suppresses the respiratory effort. Main thing is to get off vent as soon as possible.

She’s off the vent, she is on a tracheostomy now.
She was awake yesterday but they had to sedate her again because she was “agitated”. I am convinced it is pain, and it is not under control.

She had pneumonia after having Flu A. All that has resolved, she has no other issues right now other than having trouble coming out of sedation.
I had to do it to keep my job!
