I’ll be making black-eyed peas with smoked pork neck bones. I add salt and garlic. Will also have jalapeno, cheese cornbread!

It all starts with a good breakfast; 3-4 eggs over easy, 1/2 pound of bacon, 3-4 slices of toast with fresh strawberry preserves, and a half-gallon of milk.

In the South, we do Black-Eyes and Rice...called Hoppin-John.

Never heard of having a nasty Green leafy vegetable of any type with it.

HAM you have with it.

whatever you do, throw some diced hickory smoked bacon in it.

Be damn sure to pour the bacon grease into the greens.

Cuban traditional meal is roast pork loin, rice and black beans plus plantains for good luck. Wife makes a layered salad to go with the meal.

Salt pork, pepper and I throw some whole okra in with the peas. Onion wedges on the side and not in the peas or cabbage. Cornbread, sliced tomatoes and pepper sauce— homemade is best but Trappey’s will do.

peas for the pennies you will make in the year
greens for the greenbacks you will make in the year
and ham to live high on the hog

(but it doesn’t work - I always ate that but stayed poor)

Fried cabbage and potatoes is a snack for me.

New Years....Home made pasta....soooooo good, sauce with braciole, Italian sausage and meatballs. Haven't made it in years...but just might get the urge. I have the pasta machine...crank type...lol.
